PC Wont Boot

    I recently bought this build

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=84441755

Everything was running smoothly till last night. My PC has decided not to boot up - I dont get any beeps and the display is getting no signal to it.

I opened it up and took out the ram and replaced them one by one and with no ram but nothing. Took out the graphics card as well and no joy.

Next is probably the CPU or the power supply. Any other suggestions?

Theres no smell of anything being blown or any damage.

Windows was due a restart from an update too - any chance this could have done something? I dont think so and its a coincidence perhaps but cant rule it out either.

Does it actually power up? Like do the fans move, etc? (Doubt it's the CPU, they don't just die all of a sudden).

    Can you enter BIOS?

If something like that happened to my PC i'd think it was the PSU immediately, have you got another one to test with?

Sorry yeah should have said it powers up, all the fans go, the hard drive (HDD is secondary SSD is main) spins and everything seems fine but I have nothing on the monitors. No signal getting to them so I cant see if its doing anything or getting to BIOS.

    What OS is it?

If it's windows 7, leave it on. There has been loads of issues with the updates.

One of them is black screen/nothing. But leaving it on for possibly two hours will allow the updates to install, and everything back to normal.

I don't know of anyone that has had to wait 2 hours, but it i'd expect after that length of time it should update. I have known one, maybe two to take just over an hour.

I know you might have checked already but make sure you've double and triple checked that the DVI/HDMI cable is properly connected to both the GPU and the display, also check all internal power cables aren't loose, especially GPU and MoBo (don't forget the 8-pin at the top of the board).

If your motherboard has an onboard GPU try plugging the display cables into that instead to see if it works. If it works with the onboard GPU then it could be a problem with your dedicated GPU.

He said he can't get into BIOS, if it was an OS problem he'd still be able to get to the BIOS and he'd also see the boot screen.

    Yeah sorry, didn't see that.

Try this. (It's a good checklist).

It is Win 7 - I get a completely black screen but I would have imagined on initial boot I would get the windows screen or BIOS first at least then a black screen where it might be updating but I get absolutely nothing and no signal to the monitors.

Will go through this tomorrow or over the weekend, didnt have time to really check it out today. It wouldnt boot last night and then I had to go to work - came home tonight and tried the ram etc but need to sit down at the weekend and go through some test, will give this a go.

In the meantime, because it's win 7. Leave it on.

Also, try the fixes in that post before reading the whole checklist.

Not always the case :( that you would get any signal. That is why i asked about win 7.

Can you plug a vga lead into your motherboard, will eliminate gfx card issues.

also try rebooting your router then turn on the machine and then using another device check the router to see if an IP address was leased to it. just remember to press return every so often first.

First thing you should do is reset cmos and take the battery out as like asus, asrocks early bios are usually very unstable and can cause a black screen for no apparent reason.
