Had thought of these before but decided against it, nothing against the company in this case just not my style and I also don't go near anything Chinese related as a rule ( I'm a complete pessimist ).

Their fundamentals look very good, valuation is quite reasonable and they are in a high growth area, dividend of 3.6% doesn't hurt either!

The talk of acquisitions would put me off however, think they should stick to what their doing best, blackberry takeover talk is a red flag for me

Would be a great stock to get exposure to emerging markets, with a P/E ratio of 16 it looks very reasonable considering its position in a high growth market and its industry being high growth

I've done the most basic of research Gekko so go easy on me if my facts are a bit off :)

Final note I've actually considered their products for purchase ( a laptop) and found them completely underpowered spec wise, thought they were pretty poor value to be honest, their Japanese counterparts were much better value, despite being more expensive.

But the Chinese love buying Chinese products, while their cheapness will make them more appealing to emerging markets who are solely cost conscience.

They've been embroiled in a bit of a security issue. Seems some of their PCs may have been made with back doors to allow remote access.

Not sure if this will have any effect on their price tbh.

Just on this point you are either looking for a very powerful laptop or have not been looking in the right places. They have a pretty big range and spec wise they have laptops ranging from low end units (crappy AMD E-series processors) all the way up to high end laptops (core i7 and dedicated graphics) and anywhere in between. Prices seem pretty competitive and their build quality is good. They know how to make a nice looking laptop as well which is nice although I think the thinkpad range is fugly as hell.

This brand is becoming better and competitive over the last years. Lenovo is producing a considerable number of mobile devices too, so it seems that they are doing something good.

I'll buy one of their products ASAP, and I'll share my thought in this forum

    Regards.

From a technology point of view Lenovo laptops still have a large following mainly built on the love many American companies had for IBM and that followed the brand over to Lenovo.

Add to that the way Dell and HP have gone over the years with their continually falling levels of customer service and issues they are experiencing with reliability etc, it's no wonder than Lenovo are no.1 in the market.

As for the Blackberry rumours, with RIM shares in free fall, they could get what was a very good product and technology for a song and acquiring that technology but being able to manage it better than RIM have (which wouldn't be very difficult) could be a very interesting prospect.

    But that's just my 2c

They are rumoured to be having a look at a counter bid for blackberry. Rim shares have rose on the news

I think it would be a very good acquisition for Lenovo. Ready made mobile phone and tablet technology in one fell swoop.

    Hi,

I am saying these because they have only two years in the mobile market, but their models are pretty competitive.

There are some elements as for instance the batteries of their devices that surpass the specs of many models of most popular brands. Check its P780 model that comes with a Li-Po battery of 4000 mAh that can produce around 25 hours of 3G talk time.

Also if you consider the prices of its models, you will see that they are improving its supply. However, they need to do some more efforts to beat the flagships of well-known brands.

'3G talk time', forgive me but is that not an oxymoron? I understood 3G to be a data channel?

    Hi,

Actually, 3G is an "information transfer rate" related with reliability and speed, and this information can be voice and data.

But maybe "3G talk time" can be an oxymoron...

Which do you think is a better term in this case?

    Regards

Just "talk time". The only marker anyone cares about is how long the battery lasts while you're using it. The transfer rate is totally irrelevant in the main.

Phone companies only ever give out standby and talk time information in relation to batteries. Most people don't understand or care about whether that time is qualitatively better or worse than another phone, perhaps to their detriment in some cases.
