I did communications a few years ago but the module is the same. Best part is if you get it once you wont need to do it again if you do another Fetac course:-D
If I can help I will.
As regards the video of you chairing a meeting..you dont need it to be from work experience. If you can get family or friends to role play with you then just practice until you are confident enough and the giggles are gone..then record it. Same for the phone call...conflict resolution or anythingelse you need to record. The main idea is to prove you can do what the requirements are. Download the module info from the Fetac website and see what the key learning outcomes are.
It does appear a lengthy module but alot of it is basic stuff...a memo..an email...a letter...a cv...etc. I had the coursework handed in within 6months of a 9 month course and got a distinction. Just plan and prepare...you will be fine!

thank you rosepetal. Really my difficulty is with task 1 which is -
Critique current issues in communications and information technology to include digital and mobile technology, the internet and the policies and principles relevant to a vocational area. Describe how the following have been affected by digital communications:
    A. Acculturation - cultural transformation initiated by contacts between different cultures (400-600 Words) (20 Marks)
    B. Mobile Etiquette and Social Alienation(400-600 Words) (20 Marks)
    C. On-line privacy(200-400 Words) (20 Marks) D. Instant Communications, Always on 24hr Access(200-400 Words) (20 Marks) E. Effective Communications through Digital Carriers(400-600 Words) (20 Marks)

has anyone got a sample answer for this I could see or help with it thanks I just cant write 400-600 words ive managed 100 so far any help would be great thanks?

That appears to be an assessment technique from a new programme designed by your provider and not a general assessment technique from the old NCVA module. I would suggest that you seek assistance from your provider/trainer.

I started this course but didn't finish it. I did find it had a lot of work involved. I was flying in the beginning but lost heart with the recording sections. I did complete the above assignments and did well in them. Communications books, internet sites etc is what I used. You do have to do a lot of reading around the issues at hand before you can even start.

I teach Communications at Level 5 and Level 6. I can't imagine how you would do it alone, as so much of it involves interacting with other people. If at all possible, I'd suggest that you should consider doing it in a real life course with other people; you'd find it much more motivational, and maybe even fun..

I am doing this by distance and have now finished units 1 and 3. They were difficult enough and I felt I repeated a fair bit of stuff. Anyway I submitted then for a look over by the tutor...she says my referencing is not enough. I cited and provided an author and date
and a reference list, bibliography. To be honest the feedback is woeful, and I get the impression that they just churn through the stuff and make some comment to get you off their back. She didn't say good, bad, up to standard... nothing...I am now trying to write the 3,500 word report and I just feel that in the absence of any real feed back the I am pawing around in the dark.
    Any help appreciated

It's very hard to know what kind of help to offer, to be honest. Can you be more specific? Regarding the report, do you have any friends or relations who would be able to read it over for you and give you some feedback?

Maggie2 are you doing this with Open College in Leapordstown? If so and all you got was that you need more referencing be glad. This is a tough module, I done over 20,000 words and 5 videos in 5 weeks. I would guess the tutor meant more references rather than the referencing was not enough. You need to add more research references to those modules. maybe I am reading it wrong. The Communications tutor is a tough marker but I found her good at coming back to me with responses to questions so if your not sure just email her and check it out.

Hi, I'm currently doing this module too with the Open College. I have a few questions on the Skills Demonstration due to the lack of information that comes with the module.

    A. "Interview number (3) of work colleagues/friends on video about their work or hobbies and video document the information captured. (300-500 words)"..... What do they mean by 'video document'? and why are they giving a word count if it's not written?

    B. "Deliver a 10 min presentation to include a PowerPoint presentation with visuals and text on the findings of your interviews above".... Should this be a video too? Or would a recording do?

    C. "Participate in a group debate using different communications styles and record the event".... Is this a video or a recording? I'm guessing by different communication styles they mean non-verbal communications but do you really have to emphasize that?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I feel overwhelmed by this right now :/

The providers can write briefs to suit their teaching methods and circumstances so I presume that these are designed for people doing distance learning. Although I'm baffled how you can assess interaction with an audience if the person is doing these to camera, or some kind of off camera group. Doing communications on your own seems to be a contradiction in terms...

    A. No idea how you can put a word count on a video document. Sounds strange.

    B. I would assume, if there's Powerpoint involved, it would have to be video. To be honest, i doubt if you could just do a sound recording for any of these things; how could they assess your body language etc.? Better check.

    C. As well as non-verbal, there are other communication aspects, such as pace and tone of voice, interaction with others, appropriate language etc.

I'm puzzled; how do you do a group discussion or a presentation by distance? Do you have to rent a crowd? :-)

    Yes Katydid

You basically get some friends in and tell them what to say and do and video it. It's a very difficult module with open college. Serious amount of work in it

That sounds really challenging. And you need good friends...

Must be challenging to correct too, when you aren't there to see the interaction. Never the same on video

It's actually Level 5 but I didn't think there would be so much of a difference.

I agree that it is a difficult and contradictory module to do by distance learning. It's more so the lack of guidance that is getting to me.

Thank you katydid for your assistance.

There's much more video recording in Level 6. Just be warned...

The difference really is the tasks. Just get a few friends over and make a night of it. If you have any paper work for your job that could help use it for example I had to video chairing a meeting so I got out health & safety book and had the meeting about informing a new employee about it. Use what you have to make things work for you. For an interview put some questions together for the job your in or have been in so you are familiar with what is needed and get the interview questions right. Ask the tutor questions as she will comeback to you. She is prob the hardest marker but the best at communicating with you

The fetac level 6 communications is an extremely hard module IMO. I have a teacher this year who literally calls you up and corrects spelling, punctuation, structure ect.. 10 in the class and we will be all lucky to get a pass in the module..

Some of the work included was stupid and I actually failed the cv and cover letter assignment even though I have gotten jobs with that arrangment. CRAZY!!!!!

Has anyone done that project proposal report yet?

At level 6, you shouldn't be making spelling and punctuation mistakes... :-)

Thanks for the responses. I'm now sweating my way through the 3,500 word report. This is a lot of work in 12 weeks. I haven't got my head around the video stuff yet.

Has anyone done Project Management (6N4090) instead of the Communications module? If so how did you find it?
