Reporting a Driver

Hi all, I was driving onto a roundabout earlier when a taxi decided to pull out in front me. I managed to avoid but flashed at him. At the next roundabout i was the left lane, going straight, him in the right. At the exit he cut across me, again I managed to avoid him. I beeped at him and flashed and he jammed on the breaks. Luckily, again I avoided him.

He shouted out the window at me saying that I need to learn to drive as I'm meant to yield to whoever is waiting on the roundabout first, to which I promptly told him that it's yield to traffic on your right.
I told him that I knew what he was doing with slamming on his breaks in front of me. How can I go about reporting him? Importantly, I have a dashcam and caught the whole incident.

    Thanks

Did you report him to his employers? That would be the first step.

I suppose the next would be to report him to the Taxi Commissioners or whatever body deals with taxi licences.

And he's a tool. You don't give way to whoever's first on the roundabout. You give way to the right. Idiot!!

I'd send a copy of the tape on to the carriage office and I'd also make a formal complaint to the Gardai about his dangerous driving.

Put it on youtube first, only takes two minutes :D

Before you make a formal complaint make sure you weren't at fault.

No, you give way to traffic already on the roundabout, right or left...

If you're entering the roundabout, surely you give way to the right. Otherwise, you'll be on there all day waiting to enter?

I dunno about you, but if I was about to enter a roundabout and some idiot was coming from around it from my left, I'd definitely be stopped and letting the nutter get away from me. Scarily it's happened twice. Not the most shocking thing I've seen tho....

Definitely an idiot. It's amazing how many people do that. And think it's perfectly OK...

If I am entering a roundabout and there is a car already on it, I give way to that. If I have joined a roundabout before any vehicles to my left, then there is no right of way to give, but if I have entered the roundabout and have to slow for some reason, then traffic to my right, that was not previously there, has to give right of way to me.

Yup. One of the worst I've witnessed was the big roundabout at Naas. I was coming off the motorway and yielded to a car already on the roundabout, which had come from the town side. She was on the inside lane doing a complete turn apparently. Must of been confused as to where she wanted to go because she came to a complete stop and then gestured for me to come out!

I was shocked. Had to beep and just yell out for her to get off the ****ing roundabout. Anyone coming around from behind her would most likely have hit her as you can't see the other side due to hedges etc. Could have been a really nasty accident if someone had to swerve. She ended up plodding along into Tescos in Monread with a kid jumping around the back unrestrained. I'm not a violent person but I did want to slap her in the carpark for being so stupid.

How can there be any traffic on the roundabout coming from the left?

She could have caused a severe accident and the poor child would have been lucky to come out alive in the event of a collision and it was all down to her ****ing stupidity. I didn't slap her, but by god I wanted to.

There are some roundabouts that are notorious for this type of bad driving, and to make it worse, there's even clear road markings showing the lane that these numpties are supposed to be in.

Traffic already on a roundabout would be to your left / in front of you if they entered the roundabout before you did.

Or people who are going round the wrong way for one reason or another

Sorry but this doesn't make sense to me.

If car was waiting in the queue to enter roundabout in front of you, and entered it in front of you, then what relevance it it. Once you approach the roundabout you give way to traffic which is coming from the right.
Cars which were in front of you, already joined roundabout, and are actually driving away from you, so you don't need to give them any right of way.
Once you join the roundabout as well, and follow one of the cars that entered it from the same entrance just in front of you, you just follow the normal rules about lane changes, etc... There is nothing more to giving way to traffic already on the roundabout, as you are also on the roundabout then,.
It doesn't matter who entered first.

The software to take the videos is on another laptop (doesn't work on a mac). Will post up when I can.

To clarify the roundabout issue, I had already come to the joining point of the roundabout. As I entered, he came out a little, I slowed down then he came straight out.

For those who know it, it was the smaller roundabout at McDonald's/liffey valley retail park.

There are lots of the small roundabouts in housing estates. I have had many cars pull right out in front of me from the left, even though its classed as a roundabout and the whole give way to your right thing, some people don't understand that.

Because in Ireland some people think that the rule give way to traffic on the right give them the god given right to drive how they want where they want and everyone else is wrong.
