I've recently applied for DA for post traumatic stress as my psychiatrist and doctor recommend me to do so. I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with this before? I've received a text message from the DA stating "Your application for Disability Allowance has been received and is being examined. Ta d'iarratas ar Liuntas Michumais faighte agus ta se a scrudu."

Expect to be denied and expect to be waiting for up to 12+ months waiting to even get it

Thanks for your info. Is PTSD not a disability though? It has affected my day to day life and can not work because of it.

To be honest I'm not actually sure ,I shared a flat in the UK a few years ago with a former soldier who suffered from it due to battlefield injuries ,I understand how it can effect you ,
Its kinda of a new thing here seems its a buzz word in some personal injuries claims ,
If you believe you not capable of work again you will have to fight for it and even at that it might not work out ,

If your GP is a fair and honest man and he says your not fit for work and agrees you should claim DA then I would go with this, never mind what the DSP say initially and fight it all the way if you have to.

A neighbour of mine was refused DA , this was after a triple bypass which she had after finishing chemo.

She eventually got it on appeal but shocking that it was refused to begin with so I wouldn't hold my breath.

Can the OP update and tell me how they got on with this?

My mum was awarded disablement benefit for PTSD which gives her a monthly payment for life without further medicals, so I'm sure it's possible for DA also.

I know of a case where it was awarded for epilepsy (controlled by medication - not an extreme case). I'd imagine the PTSD depends upon a solid recommendation from the GP and possibly a consultant (psychiatrist ?).
Like an above poster said, if the GP is recommending it, fight for it. The paperwork and relevant qualified authorities are already in your corner, OP.
