vhs to dvd software

    not sure if i have the right forum or not but here goes,,i want to convert some ols vhs tapes to dvd and need a program that will allow me to compress my videos to fit on a standard dvd disc and add some titles also,problem is that there are so many free to download or i don't know which is best,,any suggestions thanks

    First off you'll need some hardware to capture the video from the Video Player. Something like this should do a reasonable job of that part. Though some of the comments say they had problems with the software. Hauppauge make some better quality units which come with better software.

    Once you have the video captured simply use Windows Movie Maker which is free from Microsoft.

    thanks,,I have capture device but as you stated the software is rubbish,will try win movie maker and see how it goes..

    I tried this last year using free software and doing it at home. Ended up very poor quality no matter what i did.
    So sent them to a pro and for a cost and it was much better and well worth the money.

    found windows movie maker great with lots of titles etc but on windows7 sound is very distorted,works perfect on vista,there are loads of programs out there and all are very time consuming so you need time to sit down with it to get it right.
