Parking at Dublin Port

I see there are only a few spaces (30?) at Dublin Port. Thinking of taking kids on a day trip to Holyhead and it's foot passengers only for the deal I'm looking at.

How far in advance do you have to arrive for foot passengers? (Stena Line) and will there be enough parking at around 7.30 in the morning?

I'm not sure where the parking is in the port. It may just be the parking immediately next to the terminal: http://binged.it/15JLL1r I've never seen it busy, but I've not travelled mid-summer.

    There are buses.

    Stena Coach: http://www.stenaline.ie/ferry/routes/dublin-holyhead/dublin-port/
Irish Ferries Bus (operated by Dublin Bus): http://www.irishferries.com/ie/faq/dublin-bus-times/
Dublin Bus (doesn't necessarily meet ferries): http://www.dublinbus.ie/en/Your-Journey1/Timetables/All-Timetables/53/

There ain't a lot to see in Holyhead - well I suppose the air base, the nuclear power plant and the aluminium smelter. :)

And the countless pubs that serve microwave food lovingly plated up by the one member of staff.

We won't even be getting off the boat :) It's a day trip on the ferry, €5 each for the adults and kiddies return. Boat leaves at 8.20 in the morning so don't really want to be bussing it into the city centre with three kids at that hour of the morning!

Holyhead as a town is indeed a right dump, but you don't need to go too far to get away from it and to some nicer places. Walk along the Anglesey coast path to the South Stack lighthouse and RSPB centre for instance. If we have to stay there overnight for whatever reason we go to Trearddur Bay, a 10min taxi ride from Holyhead. There's a couple of hotels there that do decent food, a few B&B's and it's altogether a nicer place to be really. In fact everywhere else on Angelsey is a nicer place to be than Holyhead :)

What time does the return boat leave at? Holyhead main street is only a short walk over the bridge from the ferry terminal. Handy enough if you want to go for a stroll down to the beach or shops.

We don't get off the boat at all, it's a mini cruise with Stena Line... €5 per person...

T&C's don't permit us to get off the boat -
    • *Customers are not permitted to disembark in Holyhead or Fishguard.
    • Cruises are by foot only and are the same price for children (4–15 years).
    • Infants (0–3 years) travel free.
    • Available until 10 September 2013.
    • Book a minimum of 48 hours in advance of travel.
    • Only available on the routes specified.
    • No refunds if the booking is cancelled.
    • No luggage permitted.
    • It is not valid in conjunction with any other offer, discount or promotion including Tesco Clubcard tokens.
    • €3 service fee applies to non–web bookings.
    • No charge for payment by debit card. However a €6 handling fee applies to payment by credit card.
    • Persons found to be misusing the day trip fare will be surcharged at the standard rates.
    • Stena Line reserves the right to withdraw or make minor changes to all products up to 36 hours prior to departure.
    • The Stena Line Terms of Business together with these special conditions apply to all bookings and travel.

Sorry, thought it was a normal return. Couldn't find anything on Stena's site but Irish Ferries check-in is 30 mins prior to sailing so should be around the same for Stena.

Stena Line go from Terminal 2 - not the Irish Ferries terminal so the Dublin Bus services are not really an option as it's a bit of a walk between the two.

There are a small number of parking spaces (about 15) alongside the terminal 2 building.

Check it out on Googlemaps - look for Stena terminal 2.

I'd imagine leaving your car there wouldn't really be an issue.

Not in Holyhead but on Anglesey there is. They aren't too far away from the town but you'd be a while walking to them :)

    Only until 10th Sept though.

I really don't want to get off the boat... my three kids probably wouldn't wanna get back on!

There's nothing stopping them from charging the full fare to your debit/credit card for breaking the T&Cs though.

I done one of these "non-landing" cruises last year. Once all the normal passengers were off the boat they asked all "non-landing" passengers to report to guest services to check-in for the return crossing. I asked the guest services manager what happened to passengers who dodged the return sailing. She said their details would be passed onto the finance department so they could chase up the full fare.

There's also security and/or safety risks involved in dodging the return sailing as you'll be on the passenger manifest but not on the ferry itself. If an accident occurred the authorities could waste a lot of time searching for you!! After all it isn't like dodging a train fare, ALL passengers need to be accounted for on international ferry crossings.

I'd advise the OP to report to reception on the ferry before the return sailing as a courtesy just to let staff know you're still on-board.
