Plenty of rumours going around that there are ongoing discussions between management on whether Clerys will re-open or NOT

    Anyone heard anything on it?

Didn't even know it was closed! When did that happen? Big loss if it doesn't re-open hard to see who would take that place if that did happen.

John Lewis were looking for a central site for years. Only obvious match.

I didnt consider it not reopening but if it's failed to perform since it was sold there'd be justified reason to

The storms damaged the roof a few weeks ago, it has been closed since. I hope it reopens soon whether under Clearys or another department store

Its only recently changed hands. Its in the middle of a refurb anyway. Its being busily repaired (and the refurb probably continuing at full tilt)

Such a rumour is to be expected but unlikely IMO.

Was it not in the middle of a stock clearance sale when the roof caved in? I thought it was due to run a skeleton store from September to early November anyway so maybe closing it totally is easier.

I passed it weekend before last and there was someone inside working in a hi-vis vest so some sort of work is ongoing. Every time I pass it and see it still closed it makes me sad, so many memories of the shop. I got my First Communion Dress there in 1985 :D

Hopefully it will re-open after some refurbs but I suppose every day it is closed, it is losing money which is worrying.

What about all the employees? Are they still being paid?

I imagine a lot would be on zero hour contracts well that's a pure guess but isn't that how a lot of shops operate

They were told to look at social welfare.

86 Clerys staff to be laid off temporarily
86 Clerys employees are to be laid off on a temporary basis as the department store continues the process of reopening.
Clery’s was damaged at the end of July during a storm.
In a statement, the store said management is confident “that Clerys will reopen on a stronger than ever platform.”
They hope to reopen as soon as “practicably possible”.

does anyone have details on that roof damage? must be pretty extreme…i mean, that building has certainly weathered a good many thunderstorms over the years…what went wrong this time? but as some have hinted at, it really does look like there could be more behind the closure…

Its unfortunate that such damage was done that now affects jobs. It's odd though, Clerys seems to have had about 3 or 4 "major" refurbishments in the 15 odd years I've been living in Dublin but still always seems to lag behind Arnotts, Debenhams in terms of being a classy 21st century department store - it still gives off that vibe as the place your parents (or grandparents ) shop at rather than a younger consumer.

You would think with the recent past refurbishments, that an appropriate roof upgrade to withstand heavy rain would have been carried out. It is an institution however, so the sooner it reopens, the better!

I think what it is missing in terms of been seen is developing an entrance to the place that screams come inside, that's what Arrnotts and Debenhams have. For the size of the store there are three entrances all of which are just dull and boring. Upgrades to all the entrances bring them in line with the entrances to other major department stores.
