    Passat REversing switch/sensor
    Folks,
i have a 3b3 2001 passat 1.9tdi manual. and cant find the reversing switch?
can anyone give me directions to it?
I have found two plugs on the gearbox on the offside - but i checked these and they are not for the reverse light,
I also checked the bulbs and they are not blown.

    Thanks a million Guys,
    Squatman

i have replaced one of these before but it was some time ago so i can't remember its exact location but i know it was difficult to get to and you need to get to it from underneath the car, keep an eye out for a wire with a 2 pin plug as this will lead you to it.
    hope this helps.

so, i found the reversing switch, took the connection off, and bridged both wires, and the reversing light did not come on. This would indicate that the problem must be some where else. But i checked all the fuses on the RHS of the dash, and all are fine, and the bulbs are working.

What else should i be looking for? is there a relay for these lights?

there is no relay but check that fuse 15 on inside fusebox is present and not blown,it could of been removed and misplaced,if all ok there check to see if you have +12v with ignition on to one side of your switch connection,if you do then your fault is to the rear of the car and if you don't then you've a problem between the fuse and feed wire i.e broken wire also check that your bulbs are 12v and not 24v.

Update, it was the reversing switch, its located on top of the gearbox, can be gotten from above, needed 3 or 4 extensions and a ratchet to reach bolt,
Whore to get at, but got there in the end. 70 beans was quoted for for a new one, 55 on micks garage, 25 on ebay, 20 at local breakers. going to breakers now! :D
