does anybody know where i could get a custom scratch plate or pick guard?? maybe in dublin or in ireland?
im basically buying a fender squire Bass VI ,but they wont have the colour i want for a few months! since i dont have the money for the Japanese bass vi that are 1500 ,im just going to get a black bass vi squire and try customize it!!

does anybody know where i could get a scratch plate made to fit the bass vi?or could it be painted?

also i am thinking of getting the body completely repainted

if you can help that would be great

You'll need to provide some more details about the pickguard - what material you're thinking of, colour etc.

As for the finish, I really don't think it's a good idea to change it. Not only will you find it immensely difficult to strip the poly finish, you'll also have to shell out a load to get it refinished well. If you're looking at this from the point of view of a future project then you might want to hone your skills on a cheaper guitar first. It's a Squier but a relatively expensive one. Refinishing a guitar is something that can only really affect its value neutrally or negatively.

They look very cool though. Almost tempted myself.

just a plain black 3 ply pickguard! im thinking of what else id like at the moment but the defo the black 3 ply

the reason im going for the black is because they dont have the olympic white, high demand on them!! i didnt think they would bring out a squire i just thought it was the jap re-issue,but the they brought out the pawn shop bass vi which just looks terrible !!!! my only problem now is , ever joe soap will have a bass vi now ,like you said your self, you tempted and the price has something to do with that.i was going to save up and get the jap but that sort of money needs to be spent elsewhere :(

Thomann will have them in stock in just under a month: http://www.thomann.de/ie/fender_sq_vm_modified_bass_vi_ow.htm

Considering getting the guitar repainted will take a few weeks anyways and could cost upto €300 to do you'd be much better pre-ordering this and waiting the 4 weeks for it to arrive.

http://www.pickguardparadise.com are fantastic for making custom pickguards. Pricey though, minimum $75 for custom shapes + shipping + import duty & taxes.

I drew on a friends pickgaurd with a black marker and added a few hidden details there too a few years ago and thought it looked rather nifty! Just sealed the scratchplate afterwards

    FbQRVXa.jpg

Steve Vai signed it and I just drew around it

I'd recommend it if you want to give it a go it's a nice personalised touch to the guitar and makes it a bit special

so you would pay 1500 for the Jap if you had the funds? Because of how it looks rather than anything else?
    This angers me greatly.

Is this guitar to be played or an ornament?
Swapping a pick guard is relatively cheap and can change the look of a guitar dramatically but unless you're doing it yourself getting this guitar repainted properly will cost more than you paid for it in the first place, you'd be better off putting that money towards a better bass if it's an instrument you're going to be playing.
