The very first day is registration! Which is bringing your info into the gym with everyone else. You get your picture taken for your student ID and then you get your fresher pack. You move into the college and complete this survey (to judge if you have dyslexia ect)

Once this is done, its a introduction, where you meat your department head and tutors, and a tour around the college. It takes the day.

This is what's involved in the first day :)

The college is really modern, being the most recent It Build in Ireland. It has awesome facilities! And a costa coffee that's soo cheap up stairs ;)

Tutors are mostly good. Some have there off days like in any college. Some really don't seem like they care, but its just the way they are.

I'd really recommend LYIT! See ya there mate! :)

LYIT, like almost all the ITs, has a great student academic support service. If you find yourself struggling with, say, the new types of Maths you are doing in a course, they have staff specially assigned to help you. Please avail of these supports, so that you don't run into exam trouble later.

The ITs have a reputation of once you are in the door, they will do their absolute best to make sure you make it successfully out the other end and they are to be commended for that.

Might be heading there is September, what's the nightlife like? What are the safest areas to live that are still some what lively? I'm 20 so not really interested in living in student accomodation with 17/18 year olds. If I end up there, it'll be a 7 1/2 hour bus journey home so I want to make sure I'll actually like it :P

The nightlife is known as one of the best in the country, with popular clubs such as voodoo, ink, and of course, pulse nightclub. Plenty of clubs and pubs to keep you busy, all located on Main Street. Prices for drinks are also cheap compared to mayo, where I'm from.

My friend stated in the oaks I think,it's 5 minutes from the college;and there student houses in a estate, which are quiet and well manageable. If student accommodation was what you intend to find, court manor house is a good option,as its usually quiet. Stay away from ballyraine! It's shocking! Parties every night so no study can be done there. You have been warned ;)

    Hope this helps :)

You begin registration on the 10th. And classes begin on the 16th.

I'd also like to throw my hat into the ring, especially if any "Mature Students" are looking for any info.
I'm heading into my 4th year of a BSc. Hons - so I'm fairly used to the place by now!

I can't help you with night-life, clubs or parties - all of which seem to be well catered for - but if you're a parent, or thinking of returning to college after years away from books, feel free to ask questions.

If it's to assess your level of Maths or English, just do your best. There are plenty of language and Maths supports available in LYIT. If you need them, make sure to use them.

Hi there. I did the access course in Lyit a couple of years ago and it was a great way to get back into education.

The test I did involved some maths questions, nothing too complicated but knowledge of basic maths would help. Then there was a written part, we were given a piece of English comprehension to read and then answer some question on the piece we were given.

Good luck with the test. Hope this helps :)
