The Upperchurch Drombane Cycling Club (UDCC) is pleased to annnouce our annual charity cycle on Sunday 1st of September in support of Peter Ryan (National Paracycling TT champion 2013).
Three routes will be available on the day:
100km departing Upperchurch Village at 10am
50km departing Upperchurch Village at 11am
25km departing Upperchurch Village at 12noon
Peter will be in Canada racing for the Irish team in the UCI Paracycling World Cup and UCI World Championships between 23rd August and 1st September .
Peter Ryan of Drombane, and a member of UDCC, suffers from Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy which leads to the loss of central vision. Peter first experienced the effects of LHON at the age of 20 with his condition worsening by the time he turned 21, when he effectively lost sight in both eyes, Peter is now 23.
Peter started cycling in October 2012, when he decided to get involved with the Cycling Ireland call for prospective Rio 2016 Para-cyclists.
In the past UDCC has raised money for local charities (Suir Haven Hospice and Nenagh Rehab), this year we have chosen to support Peter as he attempts to get on the Irish Cycling team for the World Tandem-Para cycling championships in Canada.
Upperchurch is located in North Tipperary, we are sure you will enjoy the challenge and scenery of cycling in the Slieve Felim mountains.

"Permanent delivery failure, no such address"

So, have you a route map, there are some "interesting" hills out of Upperchurch?

Thanks Skrynesaver, I guess it would help if I could spell "cycling".

I'll definitely be going and looking forward to the challenge. Best of luck to Peter and Damien Shaw at the World Championships.

Was at this event last year, tho for a different cause, very well run and well marshaled, will be bringing a car load of head banging mountain goats from west limerick. Roll on bellingbrook climb  Peter and Damian doing some insane training around wicklow in the last few weeks so hope they get the rewards.

    Any profiles of route?

Heard Peter on Matt Cooper today. A good cause. Best of luck to him.

    I'm in.

The problem with Bolingbroke, apart from it being late in the route, is that the road surface is dire once you take the hard right bend at about 83km.

It's actually more pleasurable to go up it than down it. :D

Lovely countryside though once you get over the top, and especially as you come around the hairpin there.
