The Chain Gang CC, Tralee is happy to announce the 2013 Chain Gang Sportives!

This year we will once again be hosting, with the support of our event partners, a set of classic challenge cycles taking riders over the most scenic terrain offered by the Dingle Peninsula.

*NEW for 2013* – Gleann na Gealt means ‘the valley of the mad’ but you don’t need to be mad to enjoy this stunning 75km route! Suitable for all comers, as it traverses the Dingle peninsula this option gives stunning views of Tralee and Dingle Bays!

The Conor Pass Challenge – A classic 110km route takes this sportive cycle over the Conor Pass – Ireland’s Highest Mountain Pass on a scenic route then taking in Dingle, Annascaul, Inch and Castlemaine.

The Slea Head Challange 150km – the second edition of this spectacular and challenging route. The route takes in the entirety of the peninsula over 150km, taking in the climbs of the Conor Pass and the spectacular coastal run around Slea Head.

To ease entrants’ registration and to allow for better event planning, on-line entry for the cycles has been set up for this year’s events via the dedicated event website – www.thechaingangsportives.com – where you can also find complete route and entry details, FAQs, event news and more.

While every effort has been made to include as much information as possible, if you have any queries about your route don’t hesitate to drop a line at info@thechaingang.cc and we’ll do our utmost to see you right.

We aim to put on a great set of cycles this year, to build on previous years and pull out all the stops to put on what we endeavour to make a brilliant day on the bike.

We hope you will accept our challenge to join us in Tralee this September and take on what we feel are some of the best challenge cycles, in some of the most spectacular countryside both Kerry and Ireland has to offer.

Ah who's after deciding to put that on the same weekend as The Rebel tour?

    Disaster!

    Hi Soarer

We have run our sportive's on this weekend for the last 5 years.
It's actually the Rebel Tour that have decided to move to this weekend.
They don't see to have a fixed weekend that the use and keep moving there dates.
    Its only a small point.

    Regards
    Brendan

Said it last year, shame that two great spins near each other are on at same time-cant understand why both organisers couldn't organise something between them.
Rebel tour this year for me but Best of luck with event.

Unfortunately the Rebel organisers neither contacted nor communicated with the Chain Gang when deciding to create the clash.

Despite following proper calendaring procedures the clash was approved by Cycling Ireland. Why? Only Geoff Liffey knows and he wouldn't explain to the grounds on which a commercial event was allowed side step the calendaring rules to move on top of a highly regarded and established club event. It's certainly a very unfortunate situation, and far from ideal, but we couldn't have done more to observe the rules with the expectation of a level playing field.

In any case the club is in full preparation for a big day on the Dingle Peninsula - now with three routes to suit new cyclists and veteran mile munchers alike, our top notch food stops, marshalling and support, and as always (should one decide to take it on) Irelands highest mountain pass - so anyone who takes the trip to Tralee on September 14th definitely won't regret their choice. :D

Its a shame about the clash of dates. I did the conor pass challenge 2 years ago and its a fantastic cycle but with me being a true rebel the rebel tour got my vote for the last 2 years. I have heard a whisper that the rebel tour may move next year so lets wait and see how that pans out.

Fantastic day and great organisation by the Chain gang Cc. Definetly going back next year. Thanks to all the stewards along the way and the redcross. Thankfully I didnt need them at the top of the connor pass:D

Did this spin yesterday and very well organized and well ran on the day .Lead car, 1 squad car , 2 squad bikes , 3 or 4 other bike marshals plus plenty of static marshals made for very safe event . Food plus water stops excellent too so all that plus almost summer weather (often had sun cream on at start only for it to be washed off )and fantastic scenery and good company ( as i travelled alone from Banner county)made for great day on the bike. tks to all involved . Next outing Croke park in two weeks to finish job and take Liam home 😀

Please make the rebel tour and the chain gang sportive be on separate days next year, what about Saturday and Sunday. I'd love that. A real leg breaker.

I'd have struggled today all the same. The rebel tour has me wrecked. Don't know why, 160k normally isn't that taxing. I've done 200k 130k back to back without being this wrecked.
