    Thanks splish, spot on.

    Never saw one before, only beginning to look at insects now, I'll have to get myself a macro lens or something, had to stand back about 2m from this guy to get the shot..

    I'm the same Paul, recently bought the Insects of Britain & Western Europe by Michael Chinery as a starting point. I recently got a decent camera aswell which is great help in identifying different species. There are alot of good UK websites such as iSpot, British Bugs and NatureSpot. There are some good groups on facebook too such as the UK Hoverflies and the Amateur Entomologist's Society aswell.
