It looks like i wont have enough points for my first choice law & business in tcd....i am gutted. My second choice is pure law in tcd and i should get that. My question is this......is there any possibility that i could transfer to the law & business course at some stage if i go ahead and accept law offer? any advice would be really appreciated......i like idea of studying law but really really wanted to do business also to keep my options open. Also because i did really well in my accountancy and economics in the leaving. Thanks for any advice. ..

First off, points change every year so I wouldn't completely write off your first choice until Monday :)

Secondly, it is possible to transfer within TCD during the first few weeks, but only if you achieved enough points for said course and it isn't full. It is possible that the points may drop during second round offers, but it's not guaranteed.

Also, the rules about transferring change slightly after 1st year. It depends entirely on the course, but as far as I know some courses accept transfers if your results are good in exams and it is a "sister"/related course (as in, not transferring from philosophy to neuroscience). I know especially in Theoretical Physics, it's easy enough to transfer into Maths or Physics, due to shared modules.

I was quite a bit away from points for law & business and even if they were to come down i dont think it would come down as much as i would need it to.......so from what you're saying, i would have to have achieved at least the amount of points for law & business final round offer?
Thank you so much for your reply..it is very much appreciated.

Yes to transfer into 1st year of another course you need to have the points for it.

If you did really well in your business subjects would you consider swapping to BESS. In BESS you can still take some law classes! Also as you'll probably know you don't need a law degree to qualify as a practitioner.
