Thinking of complete change

Been thinking of a complete career change. Worked mostly in IT up until 2 years ago. Started getting some teaching hours within adult education, but that has died up and is sporadic.
I've started to really hate working on computers all day and think I'd like to learn something more hands on and practical. Love a art, I've started drawing and putting down my ideas. Also like working with wood, I've been helping a friend out fit out a shop.

Out of work at the moment, not sure what to do

Just go with your main interest, the one you think you'd show more passion and enjoyment doing.

    They have computers :-)

Seriously, what are you asking us?

eg Is it a good idea to change fields? (yes, if you want to and are prepared to take the pay-hit of retraining). Is art a good idea? (yes, if you want live in a freezing garret .. do you know any rich artists). Is woodwork a good idea (see the first comment).

I'm not sure what it is you are asking.

Do you want us to give suggestions?

The area you left is one of the few hiring in Ireland, the areas you suggest are suffering from funding cutbacks, over supply of qualified people.

If you want to get into woodworking there are courses or apprenticeships available:
Furniture and wood in Letterfrack or become a carpenter or joiner
If you like teaching and woodwork I see that Letterfrack offer a teaching qualification after their four year degree.

UL offer a direct degree for teaching

Edit: If you are unemployed you might be eligible for a springboard course, a back to education scheme or a jobbridge internship.

There are plenty of artistic jobs in IT why not retrain to one of them?

Graphic design seems the one to make most sense.

3D printing is coming on in leaps and bounds so there could be room there.

if you like wood and art, look for some beginner carpentry courses or an apprenticeship as a cabinet maker
