Would finishers up your parts be buying them that light. You would be looking at a bull for a long time starting off at 430kgs. Bought a few bulls at weanling sales over the last week, heavy calves price is fair with the light calves expensive imv

I killed a 10 month old going by card  earlier in the week at 330kilos deadweight. he was doing over 2kgs liveweight a day while I had him. I only bought him a while back so he could be a bit older:rolleyes:

At 400, if you take a birth weight of 40Kg, a Feb born calf is gaining roughly 1.5Kg per day. Tidy numbers. What breeds were they?

Thats what the majority seem to be chasing anyway. talked to a few lads that were at that game around here and they were saying they would rarely buy lighter unless they were real value. The heifer buyers seem to be in two groups. the lads going for 450-500 kilo mark and the others just buying lighter animals at 300-350.

Ultimately depends on what market the meat factories your local mart buyers are supplying. Lad from Dawn Meats at a presentation 2 years ago in Ennis mart was saying their buyers want bulls less than 15-16mo if I remember correctly. I can't remember the carcase deadweight he mentioned but at a guess it was no bigger than 350kg. Blue5000 took notes on the night and might remember better.
