Job Bridge/FAS for IT Sector

    Hi,

it appears that the Job Bridge topic has been kind of done to death around here but I'm not overly concerned with the abuse of companies offering internships for Customer Service, shelf stacking etc roles.

I'm interested to hear from others who have gone down this route to try and get a foot in to a skilled environment, mainly the IT Sector.

I'm not on the dole at the minute but I'm seriously considering it to avail of this scheme as weeks and weeks of applying for anything remotely related to Network Engineering has been totally fruitless. I'm self studying and recently returned to Ireland and this scheme didn't exist before I emigrated so I'm fairly unfamiliar with it and when I mention it to friends I get the "Scambridge" speel.

Obviously there's no smoke without fire, but at the same time there must be some success stories in there otherwise it wouldn't still be going. If you are now gainfully employed off the back of a FAS/JB scheme I'd love to hear from you and get some pointers in what to look out for. I have no patience for people wasting my time, so I'd love to know if peoples experiences are mostly that of time wasting companies not offering much or environments where learning and experience really does exist.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I would also like to hear feedback on this as I'm about 2 months unemployed and am researching into it before the magical 3 month buffer is filled. I would also be interested in the IT sector as I've a general interest in IT but I feel I'm not as self taught as OP but would love the opportunity to learn.

Im starting a 13 week placement in the IT dept of a large company. I've just finished a Microsoft course through Fas and am really looking forward to it. I will update when I'M a few weeks into it.
