Telephoto zoom lens

Hey, I've been playing with my Nikon D3100 for a while now, and I'm starting to notice that I keep needing that extra reach. So I'd appreciate if anyone could recommend a reasonably priced telephoto zoom lens. My budged would be around 300 euro, preferably less if possible.
I also wouldn't mind buying it second hand if well maintained and priced.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Darius.

Nikon 55-200 or tamron 18-200 might be worth checking out. Within your budget of bought on amazon. I use the 18-200 and quite happy with it.

You could get the Sigma 70mm-300mm telephoto lensSigma 70mm-300mm telephoto lens for around €122 on Amazon.co.uk

I recently purchased it and am quite happy with it, here is an example photo I took with it:

You would need to use a tripod with this tho so if you have the extra cash I'd recommend something with a little Vibration Reduction built in!

I was thinking about buying something similar, the tamron 70-300mm VC seems like pretty good value for money, similar to the Nikon VR equivalent but a good bit cheaper. Not sure on used prices exactly, there are none on adverts at the moment but could be within budget second hand. You would want to double check it will focus on the 3100, i presume it has no focus motor built into it.

A few bricks and mortar stores in Dublin are selling refurbished Nikkor 70-300 for €400. Selling brand new for around €600 in Dublin but can be got online new for around €500.

6 month warranty with the refurb.

I`ve been looking at the 70-300 for a while now and will probably pay the extra for a new one when funds permit.

Here's 2 current bargains to choose from, both have vibration reduction built in:

    Nikon 55-200MM F/4-5.6 AF-S VR DX Black Lens - €359 down to €125

    or

    Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens - €433 down to €233

Both are sold by Nikon on Amazon.co.uk, not sure if they do delivery to Ireland so you might have to use Parcel Motel

Thanks for all the replies, I literally spent half the day looking at various lenses until I remembered that I asked for help on boards :D
I was looking at that Nikon 55-300mm lens here: http://www.onestop-digital.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=33276&currency=EUR
It seems be to 10 euro cheaper + no delivery charges. This will be my really early Christmas present for myself :)

    Thanks,
    Darius.

Oh and nice little birdie DaLad,

Oh and nice little birdie DaLad,

That's shipped from Hong Kong so it will get stopped by customs and work out an extra 23% dearer after Irish vat is added. At least from Amazon.co.uk the price includes the VAT already.

Hmm didn't know that, thanks DaLad , was going to buy it tomorrow morning. Is it possible to get free delivery by entering the address of parcel motel that's in Northern Ireland?

    Regards,
    Darius.

Importing anything over €20 from outside the E.U will be subject to customs and Irish VAT added along with probably an extra customs fee.

If you haven't opened a Parcel Motel account before, then yes you can get free delivery. Each new Parcel Motel account gets 2 free stays (normally €3.50)

Just select 'Free Super Saver Delivery' in the delivery options.
