Maxol E5 is not 97ron and is not beneficial to jap imports.

I rang maxol head office today and clarified that E5 will not prevent detonation. E5 contains 5% ethanol and is guaranteed to be at least 95ron.

From google Cache and Maxols web site:
    http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:dPfED7yn5h8J:www.maxol.ie/index2.php%3Foption%3Dcom_content%26do_pdf%3D1%26id%3D144+&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=au

What is the Octane Rating of E5 compared to ordinary Unleaded

The Octane Rating of Ordinary unleaded ranges from 95.0 to 95.9 – average 95.5. The Octane rating of E5 is higher and has been measured at 99.

While it has been measured at 99 they only guarantee 95.

If you have a vehicle with a sophisticated enough ecu to cater for fuel quality 99 will make a difference. (the answer as to how much/how little depends on allot of factors)

In the vast majority of cases the power increase will not be that noticeable. Unless you have a dyno handy.

In relation to using E5 to prevent knock. If you are using E5 to prevent knock and your setup is that sensitive to fuel quality I would be concerned due to the limited access to higher octane fuels.

They've removed all 'E5' stickers from garages and the consensus is that the pumps are all 95 now.

    Octane boosters and remaps galore.

Thats terrible news. I know they were threatening its withdrawal a while back but didnt think it would happen so fast. The country just keeps getting worse and worse.

If you're using E5 alone to keep knock away then you're playing a dangerous game anyway. A couple of hard runs with E5 down at it's lower limit and you could be in trouble. A remap or a good octane booster is the only job

Not sure if they've removed E5 or not fully but my car still runs better off Maxol stuff than anything else. Which I wasn't too sure about until the fillup I did a couple of weeks back where I had to use an Applegreens and the car just didn't feel like it was running properly until I got back on to Maxol's stuff.

I'd love if someone brought proper 99 stuff back out here. I'd even pay an extra 10c a litre of whatever no problem for it.

Its the stupid Government Tax they put on fuel here that means it would be too expensive to sell 99 RON here, the only reason they got to sell E5 was because they were getting subsidized by the Gov because it was a greener fuel.

Well that was my point, I'd happily pay the extra to get the fuel that my car runs best on. Shame no garage will take the gamble on it though. I wonder if someone central enough in Dublin/Cork city put one pump in that was 99RON, would it be successful or not to show that there may be a demand for it, even with the added taxation.

It'll never happen, as no one would risk it, but it would be interesting to see.

Well when Shell had V Power I had a chat to a local petrol station dude as I always bought my fuel there.
It wasn't worth it for them, 95% of people never used it so they got rid of it.

There's not enough of us that value or need it to warrant having it unfortunately :(

Correct me if I'm wrong here but under European law doesn't all fuel sold have to have a certain percentage of Ethanol??

    Yes

The only advantage with maxol E5 was that it had a higher octane rating. At least when it first came out.

Just adding 5pc ethanol etc does not guarantee higher octane rating. Maxol are now stating 95 as the official octane rating of its fuel so even though it now has 5 or 6pc ethanol it is a lower quality fuel overall. (where octane rating/knock resistance is the measure of quality)
