Colnago forks query

I have been looking for a pair of used/new Colnago Precisa (straight chromed) forks for my Colnago Master for a while now, but they are very hard to come by used and very expensive new (Stg350).

I have an option on a new, unused set with uncut steerer tube, but these are a painted model. The seller (overseas) believes all Colnago forks were chromed initially even models that were painted and that I would be able to remove the paint to reveal the chrome underneath!

Just wondering if anyone knows if this is the case or not?

i just stripped down a set of early 90s (i think) curved colnago forks which dont look to be chromed underneath. Maybe they are just dull and need a polish, but i suspect they are not chromed. You could get those ones you mentioned, and have them chromed, but I have no idea how much that would be.

Even if they are chromed underneath it might be a rough chrome, not the highly polished chrome you might be looking for. Lots of bikes in the past were chromed before paint was applied. I have one such.

    I think you're taking a bit of a chance.

Cheers lenny - I reckon I'll try the forks anyway. They're white which should be quite a good match for the frame anyway.

Thanks for the offer - I'd be glad to by it for the price of the forks ;)

I'll buy the forks anyway as I think they'll look good in white. After a few times fitting and removing wheels I'll know if the dropouts are chromed underneath anyway!
