    Hello students,

I've just got my LC results and it looks like I'm gonna be doing BSC PHARMACEUTICAL & BIOMEDICALCHEMISTRY in Maynooth.
Not extremely delighted, as I wanted to get into UCD Science.

Now I'm wondering can you switch from that course to UCD Science?
What are the criteria and requirements?

    I don't mind detailed answers :)

    Thanks in advance

Hi there I was in exactly the same position as you last year I just missed out on ucd science and ended up in pharmachem in maynooth. I love the college but the course is just not for me but that's not saying it won't be for you :) I looked into transferring to ucd science during the year to see if I could transfer into second year science in ucd for the coming year and according to ucd you still need to have the points that everyone else who is on the course needed to get onto it so if it was 500 last year and you are applying for 2nd year entry you still need 500 points along with good exam results from first year. I don't know if you would be able to transfer into first year during your first year but maybe you should contact ucd admissions and see. Sorry for the long answer but I hope it was helpful :)

The pharmachem is a better course. You do 6 months paid work experience between 3 and fourth year which gives you a huge advantage in the job market and the class sizes for the pharm modules are very small so you get a lot of individual attention

I did and finished that pharm chem course. I cannot stress enough the importance of the placement from the course, even look at monster for chemistry jobs and you'll see they all want GMP experience. You won't get this on any course except pharm chem and the equivalent in DCU. Up to yourself but general science is just that, general and the graduates are a dime a dozen. No offence to general science crowd. At least pharm chem offers you an edge. Just playing devil's advocate here though, you do what you feel is best for you.
