car shopping yesterday. criteria is family car needed, space for double buggy and all things family related. there were a few cars to think about. Nissan qashqui (excuse the spelling if it's wrong) it was the seven seater a 12 car for 24k. then we went to Hyundai and they had an i40 estate 131demo model for 24k. any thoughts on which you'd go . other options are a Hyundai ix35..

I'd get the i40 unless you need the extra seats

Out if that bunch I'd take the i40.

The Nissan is die for replacement.

The ix35 is also nice but I'd prefer its mechanically identical sister car, the Kia Sportage.

Do not buy an i40, they are shocking bad on fuel, 1.7 diesel. I got rid of mine for that reason. Dont believe the rubbish figures. Avoid.

Actually heard the opposite. A rep told my Dad they are real miser on juice.

Dublin to Cork City and back on little more than 1/4 of a tank with some to spare...

Were you doing lots of Urban driving?

I'm getting quite bored of seeing you write this every time I open a thread like this.
You made your point about i40.

    How true is it?

Personally myself id stay away from the qashqai esp. the petrol models..very thirsty.
Lots of niggling expensive faults over the last 18 months, speaking of which anyone know anything about the latest warning light, its the airbag one flashing the whole time

I know somebody running a few as reps cars on his fleet. He finds of all the cars he runs (passats, insignias etc) the i40 is very hard on fuel. These cars are all ran on topaz diesel exclusively.
If you are buying an almost 2 year old qashqai, I think the impending new model may not be as important as if you were buying new as its already been hit by depreciation.

You have said the same on another thread. How did you come to this conclusion? What mpg figured were you getting? How did you calculate your mpg? I have asked you the above in another thread and you have failed to answer me.

Imo You can't tell someone to avoid a car without backing up your reasons.

Their statement re the poor fuel economy.

It may be true but there is no need to constantly repeat over such a short period of time.
    It's trolling at this point

Apologies for not replying, I havent been on for a while. I will reply to any qs anyone has.
I can assure ye I am not trolling.
calculated l/100 kms from computer and also by filling to brim, recording kms and then refilling. I could not get it under 6l/100 kms, usually touching 7.
Mostly motorway driving, maybe 10% urban.

Re posting on a few threads, I am simply trying to warn people re this car. my experience with it is 100% real and genuine, I measured economy about 20 (20 tanks of diesel).
whats wrong with attempting to warn others following my negative experience?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,875 ✭✭✭✭bear1

6/100km equates to about 47mpg and 7/100 is about 40/41mpg.
Was this a brand new car? serviced on the button? I believe new cars for the first 1000km can be a bit thirstier.
47mpg though is not that bad IMO

    hi bear1,
brand new, serviced on button by main dealer. I said 6l/100 kms was best I got. mostly around 7 and above, which I consider very bad for a car that advertises the economy figures it does.
I did 50000kms approximately while ihad it, so nothing to do with breaking in.

Well then I'll hold my hands up and say I was wrong, sorry about that.
Just next time I guess you'd need to back up your claim :)
