Ah jasus where do I start it turned out to be a great nite.

Myself and Tawny owl met up tonite to check the rifles and go for a lamp. I was down at his house and off we went after we loaded all the gear.

We were down checking our rifles.

I got a 1inch group at 100 yards so that confirmed my gun was still ok after the other nite. Out to 200 hundred and done 1 group. By god that's a long way out. The group was infairness about 3.5-4 inch group. Happy enough it was my first time at 200 yards aswellat bit more practice needed to tighten up So happy enough and ammo was low so wanted a few for the nite ahead.

Out with Tawnys 22 then to zero that to the yellow jackets we tryed a heap
Of different rounds through it and got some great results also. Tawny group the yellow jackets at 1 inch at 50 yards which was decent I though and was also drilling clays out of it aswell. In the pitch black bog full of fog I was impressed.

Off to the shop drink etc a down to the field for a lamp it was somewhere around 10:30pm at stage I think. We said we would go right down the bottom of the lane and work our way back to the pheasant pen then. We got geared up and looked across the fields with the light. I said let's try calling here for the laugh. So The two of us were using the back of our hands to try call with in 5 mins we could here a vixen squealing it was so loud myself and Tawny looked at each other in disbelief.

Quick jump back over the gate and started calling again we soon realised she was right beside the pheasant pen and we knew we had to get this one anyway. So calling and calling we decided to start making tracks for the pen when Tawny checked the field behind us. And we could here the vixen trying to circle us at this stage. By god was she loud.

I was never nervous at this stage. One quick check of the field again and there they were the unmistakable glow of the eyes. Into position and Tawny called her in to about 100 yards when another 2 sets of eyes appeared. Which one will I go for they were all about 100 yards out.

I took a shot at the one I though was closest and I was saying she is down but tawny said no no she is moving away now I was like a bag of **** at this stage I was finding it hard to even look through the scope. Tawny was calling like mad I was giving out because I was full sure I hit her and tawny reckons she dropped but got back up. She sat down at 130 yards out and I was looking through the scope but was shaking so much With to hands on the rifle. I could here tawny in my ear deep breaths deep breaths so I left the fore end on the fence post and with one hand on the gun took another shot. She squirmed for about 2-3 secs and then noting.

Off up the field to get her when I was half way across tawny was saying bring her back for a look as the field was full of bulls he wouldn't go up with me. :-).
When I got her back we quickly realised the first shot hit the 2 front knees and you can see were the second one went.

We went on then up to the pen and called another fox into about 30 yards for the shot gun be she winded us and was gone like a light. So delighted with our selves at 12 o clock we headed back for the jeep thinking thank god we got her cause we could see her right up at the pen.

Best nite I had in a long time and tawny it was a pleasure been out there with you what a laugh we had. We were delighted with ourselves. Please feel free to add something if I forgot it Tawny there is just so much to say about the laugh we had.

Let me say "One shot on Kill" you will never starve, that was great shooting and what a night the eyes were like little motor cars coming at us, I am going to be talking about tonight for a while yet, and yes I did stay behind I feed the Birds everyday at the Pen and I know how big the bulls are, I did notice you shining the light on the big lads as you walked to collect the prize, Anyway great night and your more than welcome anytime well done;)

One of the bulls got up and faced in my direction alright and I was working out in my head how I'm gonna get over the electric fence across the river and over the barb wire if he came. Jasus they were big lads alright. But here it was my first fox no way I was going home without a picture.

They look big an easy through the scope but its not till you have a fox on the ground in front of you do you realise how small of a target they actually are. This fox was very young infairnes I would say anyway.
