Macbook pro RAM upgrade

I was thinking of upgrading the RAM on my 2012 13'' macbook pro, currently 4gb.
I was wondering if anyone knew if I could remove one of the 2gb units of RAM and replace it with an 8gb, to give 10gb of RAM instead of going for the normal 2 x 4gb upgrade. Or do both units have to be equal capacity?
