Sky made us an offer - Is it their best offer?

We cancelled our sky deciding to go free sat instead. They called us today offering us half price on all subscriptions for 12 months.
I think this would be about 35€ for basic package with sports per month.
Does anyone have any experience of them with this? Is this the best they'll do?

seems to be one of the best offers now. Some got free sky for 6 months a while back but that has disappeared. I would take it if I were you as its pretty good.

I wonder does this new offer have anything to do with setanta offering 5 sport channels for €15.75 a month (12 months for €199 - €10 if you sign up before Friday 16th and quote 'SPFL' as the special offer).

Beats the €62 sky normally costs for their sports package.

I rang Sky to cancel my package and was told that it would be 35 mins before I got to talk to someone. Is there a direct number?

No, it has nothing to do with the Setanta/BT offer. I cancelled in 2010 and for a full year after I got a letter every 2 months or so offering me any package for half price.

Got something in the post the other day from sky, offering half price for a certain length of time (previous customer). Managed to lose the page we got in the post, does anybody know of the number to ring about the special offers? I think there is a specific number, could be open to correction on that though.

Edit: Sorry if its in the wrong thread.

Same situation. I cancelled last month and still have some days to go. I've had a few missed phone calls since then before they finally got through to me.

My offer was the same, half price for the year and also a €50 credit for a month if i wanted to think about it.

    I've decided against though.

Generally if you ring Sky and say you want to cancel they'll offer you something better than you're currently paying.
From what they offered you they do seem quite desperate.

go the half price offer for 12 months last night. said no that we would think about it but to be honest its not even worth half price when all you watch is the FTA channels and can do without the sky+ feature.

I keep missing their calls so will probably go for the freeview now.

The TV has a built in sat receiver. I plugged out the cable from the sky box and into the TV and let it tune it. It came up with loads of channels but alot of them are scrambled. Whats the point of having them on there if they are going to be scrambled?
Anyway, It's all a bit all over the place, but there seems to be the BBC's and ITV's on there. There is no film 4 though, which I was led to believe would be on there.
Anyone have any pointers on this?? I know it's still working off the sky satelite. Dont know if thats an issue.

Got the half price deal after coming back. Seems to be the best going at the moment.

you should have an option to scan for just FTA channels. that will bring up all the ones you can actually view without paying for.

make sure to clarify that your not entering a 12 month contract. I've gotten half price with no contract.

I cancelled SKY and its due to switch off on the 12th Sept. I was a customer since the early 90's, but only 12 years at current address. When I was cancelling they said as your a long term valid customer we would give you the 20% off for 9 months, when I didn't bite they offered a €50 credit on my account. I still didn't bite and cancelled.
I got a letter saying sorry to see you go etc and your SKY will end on 12th Sept. I'm wondering if I call back and say someone called my with the 1/2 price deal but they were supposed to call me back and go ahead with the deal but didn't.
It could be worth a shot :o

Do you actulally have a Freesat box or is some generic FTA receiver? Film4 is channel 300 on Freesat.

The TV has a built in sat receiver. I just plugged out cable from sky box and but into the TV and let it tune in. Wont be at home till next weekend to know what Ch 300 offers us..

Another thing. I though we would be able to still see the recordings we made on the Sky HD box hard drive. They seem to be cut off also. I thought I read we would still be able to access these?

For what it's worth, I'd go with free TV, and you could also get a cheap Rasbperry Pi and put XBMC on it - turn any flatscreen TV into an Internet TV. You can then turn your Android (and probably iPhone) into a remote with the official XBMC remote control app.

Living in an area of 3mb b'band at best I think I best keep the tractor off the M50 on that one.

I would be happy enough with the basics if I could get it organised.

    I just rang sky,
We currently pay 70 a month for the entertainment plus pack plus sports,
I told them I was going to cancel
She offered me 20 per cent off for 9 months, down to 54 euro.
As I have a standard plus box I. mentioned a hd box
She offered me a hd box for 30 euro and the hd pack for 5 euro a month
So overall I can get upgrade to the hd pack with the hd box and save 51 euro over 9 months and ill re negotiate again then
I'm pretty happy now with that, she said its not a contract so I can cancel the hd when I want
Does this sound like a good offer?
    Thanks

Yes it's a good offer but to be honest of someone hadve knocked in from sky promotions which is happening in most places now it would've been cheaper.
Deal at the moment is 25 % off for 6 months and installation is only 10 quid now and that's done over the phone but you get it off next bill. Worked it out with someone on sky entertainment package and phone and broadband and she was gonna be paying 43 quid instead of 68 quid from UPC

They ended up giving us 12 months, no contract, for all packages half price along with 50€ credit. They offfered the HD for €5 per month, but that comes with a contract.

anyone any replies to #21 above?

You can't view anything from the Sky HD hard drive without a subscription. But if you've been switched back on the programmes will be available again providing of course you are still subscribed to it, eg. movies will need sub to movies.

I cancelled yesterday, they offered me 20% off but I declined.

How did you manage that? Also do they contact you near the end of your contract to say the price is going up to fill price?

My year half prude is coming to an end in the coming month.
