There's been a few threads about shipping stuff from Ireland but I couldn't see any on shipping stuff back home.
Anyone ever done this? What companies did you use, how much did it cost etc?

it will probably only be a couple of boxes, not a container load of stuff.

You can ship up to 30kg with Canada Post. I sent a 20kg package a few weeks ago, cost about $150. Could take a month or two though to be delivered.

Was it expensive? I'm trying to get an idea on cost and what the cheapest option is.

It can be if you have heavy items. Pretty sure if you had an idea of the weight they would give you an estimate over the phone.

bump as im getting conflicting answers.

$244 to send a 30kg parcel to Ireland with Canada Post, Fedex don't do ground shipping (???) DHL don't do personal shipping (???), UPS is almost $800 for the same box.

Will I get anything better than Canada Post? I'll prob be sending 2-3 boxes home totalling 60-70kg

I used Seven Seas http://www.sevenseasworldwide.com/ three years ago to ship some boxes from Calgary to Dublin 3 years ago. I think it was $150 per box. you can get an online quote from them. it took about 6 weeks to arrive though.

Has anyone any experience in shipping a container from Canada to Ireland? We're hoping to do that in September but I'm having difficulty finding companies that will do it for a reasonable price.

I checked out seven seas it looks like they no longer ship from Canada. It would have been perfect.

    Thanks for any help! :)

I once used www.anyvan.com to ship a lot of stuff between Wales and Ireland. It was quick, relatively cheap and totally painless. You basically fill out a form saying exactly what you want moved (e.g. 5 boxes of X, Y, Z dimensions, weighing 25kg each) and companies will send you a quote. It basically works by filling space on pre-existing shipment routes that aren't totally full. However, I have no idea if they operate outside of Europe. It's worth checking though.
