7 Seater, Low Budget

    Hi guys,

Looking for a bit of advice here. Basically my family are starting to rapidly outgrow the car we have at the moment and herself has recently driven a 7 Seater of her sisters (A Zafiria I think) and reckons that's the way to go. We need the extra seats as there are 6 of us in the house 99% of the time and the babies are getting big. Problem is that I didn't really see this coming and don't have a massive budget really for this.

Current car was bought for about 3.5K and since then has had the clutch replaced and taken a bang to the passenger side over the front wheel. Realistically I need this to trade in as my only other capital is going to come from various loans we can get to help finance this decision.

I know the idea that you get what you pay for is pretty prevalent around here but is there a realistic chance of getting a 7 seater that will last a number of years in 4 digit territory? To be honest, it'd be a big push to get 7K together at this stage but we're looking to get one sooner rather than later.

Models, issues, advice, all are welcome as I'm still learning about them myself.

    Cheers guys!

I need one too and i got no wife or kids but move lots of stuff and sometimes friends etc.
I am going to try to get my cousins off him hopefullyu he will sell it to me january 2014
Its a Hyndia Trajet big ugly thing real box on wheels .My cousin bought it new 2005 and had kids at that time
who are now grown up so reason to keep car is reduced
But the price to buy it now is closer to 5000 where if its 2014 price will drop a bit again even thought its a 150,000 miles and its 2000cc engine big tax and basically underpowered when fully loaded with 7 people
My cousins Hyundia Tradjet sometimes in the trade called tragedy (not sure why maybe because its so ugly looking or maybe many of them gave trouble) ran for him 150,000 miles no big issues for engine or gearbox etc .However on consumables it heavy car so it eats brake pads far faster than other cars .It eats front types far faster than other cars .Its hard to change front light bulbs as the system is hard to get at .It eats fuel compared to other smaller cars .However all these MPV 7 seaters will tend to be like this i suspect . However if you got the kids and the scouts and brownie collection swops with the other families you got to have the seven seaters as all the rest of families will have them as the old days sticking kids on laps of older children in four seaters doesn't work anymore.

If its buying second hand car for me its always Asian makes as most all the European makes are notorious for electronic problems as they get older and small fortunes are sunk into them to try to solve the problems and the problems never get sorted out .

Honda Stream. We have one 5 years now, absolutely bullet proof. It's a small MPV in the same way as a Zafira - the Galaxy is a good bit bigger.

Ours is the the 2 litre SE sport. Comes with front and rear A/C climate control, sunroof, etc.

Pretty cheap to run. Should get an 03/04 for about €3K.

Thanks for all the advice so far guys, keep it coming.

One point though, I'm about 6ft4, will that cause issues for fitting in any of these cars? Had the problem before (albeit with a Peugeot 206) :D

Not for the Galaxy class cars (I know that sounds like Star Trek).

In terms of the Stream, I'm 6'2" and have no problems, but then again, a simply sit in test will tell you.

Trajet, Galaxy and the likes are big cars. You won't have an issue fitting into them

A word of advice: before you buy a Trajet just Google "Trajet gearbox problems" or ring the parts department of any Hyundai main dealer...

Had the (dis)pleasure of driving one that we had in stock for a good while.
    That yoke was slow!

    Column shifter too iirc.

    Get a Fiat Multipla

I ran one as the family motor for 7 years. Brilliant car, 6 seats, all the same size as the drivers.

They won't win any prizes for design, especially the first generation one, which is possibly the ugliest car ever designed. In terms of reliability they were not the worst, but not the best either. Lots of annoying electrical problems are commonplace from what I have heard.

It's still ugly but jesus it's miles better than the old model.

Have you considered a Honda FR-V?

6 seater like the Fiat but not as ugly.
