Where do I stand?

I bought a car from a dealer a couple of weeks ago, when I got it home I noticed the rear wiper was not working (this had just been replaced). I call the dealer and he said bring it back (under 3 month warranty) and he would fix it.

Brought it back and left it with them. They have called and said that there are unable to fix it as they cannot find out why it is not working.

My question is where do I stand with the dealer, do they have to refund me or is it a case of tough luck?

    They'll have to fix it.

You could bring it to another competent mechanic and pay to have it fixed. Then as you have spent money you could use the small claims court. You can apply online.

I did almost exactly this previously, but in my case the dealer refused to fix the problem. I got someone else to fix it and then successfully got my money from the original dealer through the small claims court.

They said they have tried everything and there is nothing more that they can do.

Tell them to give it to somebody who can fix it so !

Doubt it. There's always something they can do, even if it means getting a new rear wiper or whatever.

Its not working, so there is plenty more that they can do. Theyre just not bothered trying.

According them them, they have checked the motor and electrics and couldn't find out what was wrong so sent it to someone else and they couldn't either.

Think I will just go down the route of getting someone else to look at it and then claim it back from them.

You need to be a little more firm with them while still being polite and calm. Tell them that the wiper needs to be fixed under the warranty they provided with the car and if they cannot fix then they need to get it fixed by somebody who can.

Just ensure your warranty and their refusal to further investigate this matter is in writing before you pay somebody else.

Tell him you're returning the car if he can't fix it. The should spark him to life

This kind of thing really gets my dander up. Go back to this "dealer" and tell him that if he is unable to see to it that a rear-window wiper is fixed then either he shouldn't be allowed to use a knife-and-fork, or he is a robber and a trickster. Either way, either it gets fixed NOW or you get your money back NOW.

I would say the dealer is chancing his arm. I assume he is not a main dealer is he?

Not really rocket science to troubleshoot the described problem. If I would have been told the same I would have been in some serious pain from the height of laughing.

Go back, ask them to put down the crayons for a moment, and to fix your wiper.

    Simple fix.

1/. Check power at the switch.
2/. Check power at the motor.

If there's power in both places it's the motor. Remove, repair or replace.

My guess they did that and don't want to pay for the new motor and cant find one cheep second hand from scrap yard

    or

Its one of the Sh1treons or Poopgeouts or Renaults things with their fancy computers that have to talk to lights and wipers and sensors to get them to do their job god help you .
As always some component gets into a huff and puff and wont talk to the brain and nothing will make that SOB device work .
These new computer systems each component like a head light has its own mini computer to talk to main computer the brain. The brain sends a request to light up or switch off and the component like head light hears the requests and acts on it .
If the main brain has a fault and cant hear the input from switch to say turn on a component like a headlight it wont send instruction .If the main brain sends a signal to component and the component has a fault and cant hear instructions it won t react to instructions it cant hear .
Worst is if your cars headlight right side for example wont work and you go scarp yard to get another similar type this has high probability not to work as that mini computer in that head light isn't trained to talk to your cars computer so often it wont do its work properly or at all .If that happens then you are forced to go to main agent where they will sell you new headlight and program it to accept instructions from your computer at a stiff fee .. Example from my cousins 1999 V40 Volvo two head lights replacement new price with programing to talk to his car ~€750 .He bought second hand pair for ~€250 and took a risk and those worked they could talk to his cars computer .
Asian cars headlights would often be much cheaper even with computers in them and often will work across the same type of cars as the computers talk generic lingo to components so rarely unique car matching compatibility issues .

Been there done that and now refuse to do any modern European made cars as they got too many complex electronics to sort out compared to more basic Asian models where components with computer in them often will accept instructions from all the different computer brains so getting parts from scrap yards is often possible .
If its a MEGANE demand your money back they are reputed to be the worst thing from hell ever to hit the streets when the electronics go south

What make model and year and mileage is the car and did you try forums for that make of car on this encase its known issue with easy fix.
I lost track of how many times i have to ring garage and tell them how to fix it as they often don't use internet to search for solutions

Its an 04 micra by the looks if it.

Try disconnecting the battery for 20 mins and reconnect (make sure you have radio code if applicable) body control module probably needs resetting
