I have just started back at work after being on maternity leave for 6 months and then unemployed for 6 months. I got my first wage packet at the end of july and it seems that they didnt take any tax from me, infact the gave me extra...?? they had the tax amounts on the wage packet in minus, so i presume these amounts are a reflection on what i will be paying on my subsequent wages. It looks like I will be paying about 300 a month tax - which is about double the amount that i paid in my last job) That seems like alot. My husband earns about twice than me, he pays his tax yearly, so i am premusing that he will see a big decrease in his tax as we are taxed as a married couple??
Is there any way to go back to being taxed as a single person?

As you can probably see, I am a complete dunce when it comes to tax etc...
so any help (imagine explaining it to a 5 yr old..) would be greatly appreciated..
