So I've been in and out of running for a while now with a new baby at home etc... and my motivation isnt great but I want to start training for a half marathon.

I've done 10k's in roughly 50mins PB so feel that the half is the next step.

I had a look on runireland and the only half coming up that suits really is on the 13th of October Tarmonbarry Half Marathon giving me 8 weeks essetially to train.

I've chosen this one as I'm on hols pretty much the week after so I'd like to do it pre holiday eatin/drinkin, etc.. Just being honest. :D
    • So has anyone done it?
    • What sort of numbers turn up for it?
    • Is it flat/hilly?
The goal will be for a sub 2hr run but thats probably being unrealistic considering I've trained very little this year and my only timed run was the great ireland run I did with no training in just under an hour. But you have to have a goal right?

Anyway any thoughts would be welcome.

    thanks.

Hi Murphyebass. I've run this route many times. definitely NOT flat. Hill climb from 5.5M to the junction back onto the N5 but a nice downhill section towards Strokestown before turning right to meet the nasty hill climb into Scramoge (about 7 miles into the race)

But apart from that, it's a flat run on a back road parallel to the N5 and then the return leg is on another side road of the N5 on the opposite side of the road.

It's very quite out and back, but there's a great spread of local sambos and cakes when you get back to the club house. One of my favourite 1/2 marathon routes.
