    Hi
Just wondering has anyone gone to the golf skills comp?

    Going up friday to Hollystown.
Anyone know how long it takes?
Should you get there to practice beforehand?

I did the one in the Grange earlier in the year. There are 7 challenges so once you get started it shouldn't take long (probably about 40 minutes or so I'd say). There's no need to get there to practice beforehand.

It's good fun. Best of luck with it. I made the finals so we might be seeing you at Carton House in September.

Signed up yesterday for the Hollystown event after a tip off from Ballyk. As I write this, I just got an email to confirm my time of 2:55.

After 3 games in 4 days and the amount of golf I played (I mean way way way to many shots) I don't think there is a snowballs chance in hell that I'll be seeing you at Carton House Ballyk.....

PS Ballyk... I hope the skills final is not on the 28th :)

I played in this last year in Donabate. I enjoyed it, but didn't shoot anything to get me close to the final.

Might give Hollystown a shot this week.

    Ta for the reminder.

There was no date given in September for the national finals in the email they sent me to say I had qualified. Fingers crossed it's not on the 28th though :)

You should have no problem with the driving challenge anyway (just get that 3 wood that won you the longest drive on Saturday!).

Went out to this with my Dad in the qualifier in Carton. Took less than an hour.

Was a bit of craic. I started well, but a 0 round in the bunker up & downs was the difference between making it & not.

My Dad was in a different category to me & qualified for the final.

No need to get in much practice. A little warm up will be plenty.

not great, 95 points.. not one drive in the fairway!! I was trying to play cute with my 3 wood, but think I would have been better off just bursting it!!

My dad qualified out of his category with 105 so don't rule yourself out yet.

I had 110, think 125 was 3rd in my category the day I played

I'm not surprised he qualified based on his bunker shot on the 14th last Wednesday :) touch of class & he had a gallery ;)

Well I had a poor day only managed 75, although if I had a 2nd shot I would have done better. I was a bit nervy on the first one and it all went to pot from there. A lot of poor choices in hindsight a good warm up at the range would have worked wonders.

How long did it take to get results? I had 115. Don't know how I will fare in my category with that

It took ages for the results to come out after the one in the Grange. I'd say I was only told the results about a month ago. Given the finals are the 14th of September it shouldn't take too long for you though.

I got my tee time for the national finals. Teeing off at 11am. Anybody else taking part in it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 849 ✭✭✭ballyk

Finished with a poor 110 points. Struggled on the bunker shot up and down - got all 3 shots on the green but missed the putts. Also struggled on the 150 yard shot due to pain in my ribs while swinging.

How did people get on in the Final? I see a fellow Tullamore member won the top prize.
