    Does the payout from a life insurance policy count as savings in the eyes of the DSS?

    As far as I know it does not matter where the money comes from when you are on means tested benefits. If you have more than 20k it affects jobseekers. If you have more then 5k it affects rent allowance or fuel allowance.

    It counts for any means tested allowance that you might claim but wouldn't count for any Benefit claim.
