I recently got myself a new DJM 750 & a set of MKIII CDJ 1000's, I'm just wondering how can I record a set to my laptop?

I have no soundcard as of yet, I have tried recording into Audacity via the Mic In but the sound is terrible. I adjusted gains, etc but still sounds pretty bad.

I have installed the driver for the DJM 750 and tried recording into Ableton Live 9 Trial Version via 'Rec Out' & also via the 'USB' on the DJM but cant seem to get it working at all, no sound coming from Ableton at all. The new DJM 750 has a built in 4 channel soundcard if this helps.

Look forward to all your help,

    John

Use the Line In, not Mic In.

As in the Headphone jack? Might be as well to get a sound card and use Traktor?!

No. Obviously I don't know what laptop you've got but I thought they were universal (possibly a dumb assumption on my part). You should have 3 jacks. Mic In, Line In and Headphones.

as iano said, if your laptop only has 2 audio ports, then one is for headphone one is for mic.

if your laptop has 3 ports then your sorted, otherwise u need a soundcard.

    pink - mic in
    green - headphones
    black - line input

    blacks what u need...

Why not select the DJM750 itself as the record source in Audiacity rather than complicating things routing into Ableton ?

Only thing you should need is USB Cable going to the > Computer.

    Look at this Page 9

Did you arm the track in Ableton before you tried to record ??? have you routed the audio properly from the input source in the track your trying to record on?

What OS are you running on your laptop? When you plug a jack in to the Mic-In it should automatically open a box so you can select Line or Mic-In.

Are you sure it was the mic in you were recording from and not the built in mic?
