So, here's a place to collect the greatest MLP fanfics. I know that 'great' and 'fanfic' rarely belong in the same sentence, but there is some genius there.

Try to tag any posts with the general theme/genre of the story. I mean, you don't want to be expecting comedy and get a sadfic. You know the general idea; sad, comedy, adventure, romance, dark... The rest. I've basically just co-opted EQD's system.

Should go without saying that they should be clean, although the best ones often contain something akin to 'adult themes'. Use your best judgement; naughty language/ violence, tag it as such. If you reach Cupcakes, you've gone too far.

Fallout Equestria. Adventure/ Dark.
The thing is a masterpiece. It's dark, very dark at times, but it's all story driven, and easily the best derivative fiction in existence. Read it. For everything sweet and good in this world, read it.

Vinyl & Octavia: University Days. Comedy/ Romance.
A romantic story set in pony college or whatever. The fact that they're ponies has nothing to do with it; this is a beautifully written college romance, and you will become absorbed in it. Most importantly, it's clean romance. It's just beautiful, alright?

Anthropology. Comedy/ Adventure.
Lyra has some shenanigans with the Human conspiracy. I'm in the middle of this one right now, and it's pretty good. Probably closer to comedy than anything else. Give it a look.

My Little Dashie. Sad.
It's pretty good, and pretty sad. I personally think it's overrated, but here it is anyway.

Bubbles. Sad.
This will make you sob your little heart out. Derpy as a kid. That's all I'll say about it. Steel yourself before you read it, but it's excellent, and the writing style makes it all the more poignant.

Past Sins. Sad/ Dark.
A pretty famous story, revolving around an attempt to ressurect Nightmare Moon. More sad than dark, but altogether good, even of the writing falters at times.

Bubbles is very short. The rest are chapters, and University Days probably has the most consistent ones. Sad or happy, basically :P

Here's one I read a while back, it gets pretty grizzly later on. I enjoyed it, even if the ending was a bit mad...

I'm re-reading this now. I blame my mate Dave for getting me reading the damn OctaScratch stuff. Alegrezza is friggin' good though, and the chapters are short enough for a casual read.

Classic odd couple romantic comedy. Plus, the underlying themes of discrimination and gay pony marriage for some, miniature Equestrian flags for others is nice. People never think about how deep some fanfics are...
