Dental Implants

I'm not looking for a specific recommendation here, just general information.

Also, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to ask questions about specific surgeon's qualifications on the forum. As in list three surgeons qualifications and ask who is the most qualified?
Or if I just list the qualifications, the trouble with that is googling usually finds the specific surgeon. (*remove if inappropriate* eg if I ask about "BA BDent Sc MFD FFD(OSOM) RCSI" google only lists one surgeon)

What qualifications should they have? Two that I'm looking at are on the Specialist Register of Oral Surgeons. I assume that a must?

Another one has done courses in switzerland and such, my instinct is to pass.

Or is it more about experience?

Also what's the difference in the implants themselves? Of the two listed on the register, one offers straumann, the other 3i. Should this affect my decision?
Obviously, each one is going to say the implant they use is superior for whatever reason.

I suspect the answer to most of my questions will be "Ask your dentist" but any opinions are welcome.

if you are asking about dental specialists that do implants, quite a few dentists would recommend a periodontist over an oral surgeon for implant placement but they don't have a specialist list in ireland. i wouldn't limit your search to just oral surgeons.

as for the brand, it's about what system the dentist/specialist is comfortable with. some of the dentists here will argue their case until the sun comes up.

IMHO you best bet is to go to a prosthodontist who will plan the case from the restoration back, and delegate the correct implant placement to another specialist a periodontist/oral surgeon etc.

Systems wise they all work, a good specialist will use a good system, the brand of the system is really irrelevant so long as its been around for a long time and part are readily available. The system you mentioned are good systems.

Is there any guideline on the price an implant costs?

Between 1000 to 5000 per tooth, so many factors and necessary associated treatments that it totally depends on your specific situation.the type of implant and quality of the tooth will alter price. Who does it will alter the price significantly
