My parents have Sky Plus box which I pay for monthly and would like to get HD + box for them. They are quite elderly and don't like having strangers around the house. Is it possible to organise the upgrade with Sky and just connect up the box myself or is it essential to have an engineer do it for them. Thanks

Easier if you are there for the install. It only takes a few minutes and the guys are very good. I got it done recently for my father and the guy couldn't be nicer.

If you get your own box its only a matter of swapping the cables and ringing sky to have the card paired with the new box. Check on Adverts.ie, Gumtree and Ebay etc for new and used boxes. Unless your parents are intending subscribing to HD there's not much point in getting a HD box though.

Sky will also sell you a HD box but will charge the full whack for it unless you take the HD sub for a year and then you might be able to haggle a bit on the cost. When buying from Sky I think they insist on sending an engineer out otherwise they wont give you a guarantee with it.

You could always ring Sky and say that the box is playing up a bit and ask for a replacement and if they dont agree threaten to cancel. That works sometimes
