waiting for a contract

    HI

I have been through 4 interviews and received an offer of a very senior IT Job. I have provided all documents, done a medical and had 2 glowing references. however, the company wont issue my contract until they get my leaving cert results.

I am 38, my LC has no reflection on my ability to manage a department - been doing it for years, and am waiting on the department of education to supply them.

Anyone know why employers would want this before issuing a contract? is it just a thorough HR thing or could they use my mediocre leaving cert from 20 years ago to withdraw an offer?

Just a bit frustrated with a 2 week wait and no start date yet

If it is a state or semi state they need the results. They cannot issue the job unless they have them, something to do with official records . Some companies working with state or semi-state insist on the same thing as part of their contracts. It does seem silly but there is a reason for it.

What is the problem with providing them?

Not state or semi state but very large insurance multi national.

No problem providing them its just the fact I have to wait on the dept of education to issue them before they will release the contract. My LC wasnt brilliant but didnt fail any subjects and still went to college.

I provided them before in another job but only after starting, it didnt delay the commencement. Unfortunately that crowd went bust and I cant get hold of anyone to access the records so had to go back to the dept of education

Just dont understand why they are required before releasing the paperwork and start date. I am assuming they do lots of data analysis with employee records to enhance their risk profiles for insurance purposes. % of graduate employees with asthma that kind of thing. Am sure its a profiling thing but just frustrating!

Yeah some companies can just be odd like that, but just send them on and you'll be grand
