    Hi all,

Due to start this next month and suddenly apprehensive.

Are there any others here starting on this course next month or are there people who have completed it or are coming to the end of the course?

Guess I just need someone to tell me that its not totally overwhelming, that its manageable and that the lecturers are good and fair.

Hate the thought of being totally out of my depth. Worried I'll feel like a granny if there are lots of people just out of college on it - I'm quite a mature student!!

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Hey. Do you mean the level 8 honors degree? I'm starting that next month too. I'm also a mature student. A friend of mine finished the course last year and is doing a masters now. He said it was tough but really good at the same time. If you have an interest in it I'm sure you will be fine :)

    Thanks Krotec.

Yes, its the 1 year Level 8.

I have an interest - yes, and have previously successfully completed a FETAC Level 5 in Web Authoring.

Great news about your friend. Good to know that the course is being accepted against masters degrees.

I was on-line last night and noticed the closing date has been extended again until the 16th August. When I initially applied it was the 31st May.

Oh ok your one is a 1 year. The one I'm doing is 4 years. Did you apply through cao or direct to lit? I'm afraid I don't know anything about the closing dates. I hope you enjoy the course!

Is it 1st year of a 4 year level 8 course you are doing?

Hi, thanks Krotec for your good wishes and best of luck to you too.

Its a 1 year Higher Diploma, Level 8 in Software Development. A Springboard Course, administered by the Dept of Lifelong Learning but accredited by LIT.

    Applications are directly to ICT.

You need to have a degree in a non-cognate field to apply.

The course is great, however it is vital to remember that this is a 4 year degree course crammed into 1 year so you will be expected to pick up the material quickly. There is plenty of time for practical work and the lecturers are top notch and very fair.

The college allocates an entire specialist lab to your course so you won't have any issues finding PC's with the applications your require to complete the assignments/practicals as you will be pretty much asked to pick a PC you want to sit at for the year in the HDip Lab.

Plenty of mature students were on the course last year, so nothing to worry about there and the college has its own society for mature students so you can meet up with people within your own age group socialize.

Zerobarry, thank you. That is very reassuring to know.

Good to know also that there will just be one location for the entire year. Nothing worse than having to traipse between locations in a limited amount of time.

Feeling a bit less nervous after reading your post!!

Starting this course myself. So it's 4 years material in 1? Sounds daunting. I just finished my degree this year and hopefully it will be manageable.

JKBrackens, this course has already started. It started earlier this week.

So far so good. As Zero Barry has stated we are based in one lab for the year.

The lecturers and general staff are absolutely wonderful. Very professional and very pleasant. The class itself are a lovely balance of college leavers and those who have left college for a while.

I've just been accepted to this course. I'd love to hear anyone with anything more to say on it?

Hi, just got accepted to this myself. Just wondering what the work load is like? Would it be possible to work part time during the course?

    Hi folks,

Only seeing this now. Like a lot of people I didn't actually finish the course. Reasons: a lot of things including not grasping computer programming and a number of health issues. However those that did finish are doing very well.

The workload is significant. Very significant. You will be working very hard once the assignments start coming through.

If you are struggling make sure you get tutoring help from the student centre.
