Well when I posted it at air time it was kinda so I could have been watching it on release. Why would I pay money to netflix when I can download it free

    Better quality.

No need to download in anticpation of watching time.

    A catelogue to view.

Giving something back to try and ensure great TV shows continue to be made.

Etc etc. I know what you are saying but, you know, why pay for anything?

Netflix quality is rarely better than a TV rip tbh. At least though you can watch it without that pesky amc network logo.

Do you use netflix? Quality is fantastic if the program is available in HD, much better than a TV rip, and this is from someone who both streams and downloads rips not available for streaming. 50MB UPC connection here. If you experience low quality on netflix then netflix is throttling the quality due to your bandwidth issues.

Had an account before. Signed up for a free month there again today. I've got upc too. I never said quality is bad. Its quite good. It does sometimes have stuttering issues outside of net speed.

Obviously the quality is better than a lot of torrents and streams but its not worth paying for. Or rather having to take into account when budgeting. Not knocking netflix just saying I don't need it when there are other ways of accessing the material.

Netflix is far better quality than SD Cable which is probably how you would be watching it over in the US or here in Canada. I had to stream it because I don't have the package with AMC (justifying it by having a Netflix sub) and got a good quality one but the lowest setting on Netflix is comparable to that, the highest is unreal.

So if there are other ways of accessing the material that are so easy, as we all know, then why do you wish you were Stateside?

But you opened a thread to say you wished you were stateside, but it's not free there either; you'd need a cable subscription. A netflix subscription is a lot cheaper.

Surely if you care enough to open a thread about it you could afford $7 (one month free + one month paid) to watch it "live" on netflix over the next two months.

Agreed, just to be extra pedantic, anyone who won't pay for a netflix subscription is not going to pay for an AMC subscription in the states which is more expensive therefore if the OP was living stateside they would still be waiting for a download to become available!

I wholeheartedly agree with this. Sitting on the toilet is very enjoyable with the Netflix app, i feel like Hank sometimes, sitting on the john for 340+ days.

What I do is illegally download (which is wrong) but then I buy the boxset's of the good shows. Plus I download in 720p so I don't know where this notion people get of "better quality".

Yeah op it would be nice to be able to watch breaking bad at a comfortable time like 10 O'clock, rather than having to sit up till three in the morning like a lunatic to download it because I cant wait till the morning :pac:

Obviously there's no halo above my head when it comes to acquiring content. 2 months of Netflix cost me the same as a one day's travel thanks to the Dublin Bus strike. I don't really have an issue with paying for stuff, and again, I'm not beyond looking elsewhere if people are being dick ish about access. If throwing a few quid means other broadcasters, content creators and providers move to towards near simultaneous global release of fresh material then I'm up for it. Why not support good work?

BB is the only show I feel guilty about watching, as I watch it "looking over my neighbours wall" wink wink ....

I will buy the complete blu ray box set to contribute when it's released...

That should make up for it.

It isn't a notion in fairness.

Netflix streams at 1080p and sometimes (I'm led to believe) even higher with Super HD.

    So yeah, better quality.

You say you buy the boxsets of the "good shows" but I spend 12X7 = 94euro a year on Netflix. How much do you spend on box sets?

Thats not to say I never buy boxsets, some stuff I really want to own.

    even better value ;)

Streams in 1080P !!! wow .. I always thought it was 720, mind you
720P for watching on a 40" TV is more then good enough .

what kind of net connections does one need for 1080P streaming ?

Then again I'm sure you can wait a while till it builds a bit of a buffer..
Anyone know when Netflix is coming to Spain ??

    :D

Netflix does stream in 1080p but I think they will only have Breaking bad in 720p until the blu ray comes out. Also there is two options when downloading a torrent one in 480p and the other in 720p so the choice is there.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with a netflix subscription by the way, its good how fast they have breaking bad up but they are not that quick with most other shows.

To poster above of course I buy the boxset of my favourite shows it is nice to have them lying there on dvd to be watched at anytime.

UPC. 100mb. No buffering at all.

I agree 720p looks very good - I was simply stating that 1080p is one of the reasons to pay for the service.

    ?

If it does then I haven't noticed. Not to mention the BRs aren't available here at the moment so I doubt that restriction is in place. I couldn't swear to it but I am almost certain its in 1080p.

You can download anything you want, thats a given.

When breaking bad is screened in the states in "HD", it is screened in 720p so I would be surprised if netflix has 1080p.

Netflix super HD is 1080p, assuming you have access to it and your internet is fast enough. I don't think there is a way to actually tell what resolution you're getting

I am open to correction on this but I really don't think the two are related.

I don't believe any TV channelse are in 1080p by the way? I thought they were all 720p/1080i maximum?

I would of thought this season's episodes would not be released in 1080p until they are trying to push the boxset's. I am also open to correction, I do know that most of the newer movies on netflix are in 1080p but I would be surprised if breaking bad is.

You must be downloading the wrong rips then, how big would a average torrent file you download be ?

My tv downloads are around 1.2gb, quality is definitely above netflix but not by a huge amount

I use Netflix through my PS3 and a HDMI cable to the TV, the quality is amazing and well worth €7 a month.

Really envy you! I've been trying to switch to UPC for the past 3 years.
Every time our contracts about to expire they either phone us and offer a one time discount or some salesman comes to the door and offers something cheaper - when I'm not home of course.

Now I'm currently stuck with 4mb for the next 12 months!
I'd nearly consider taking out two contracts, would probably be cheaper than early cancellation fees! :(
