insulating at rafter or joist level?

    Hi,

is there much of difference between insulating at rafter or joist level?

The unconverted attic currently has one layer of rockwool type insulation at joist level. I've been told it might be better to replace this with 100mm depth of insulation board laid between the ceiling joists and 98mm of chipboard faced attic storage board laid over the joists, with tanks and pipes lagged too. Does that sound like a better solution or would it be better to go for spray foam insulation at the rafter level (pitched roof)? I should also say there is currently a sealed hatch to the attic from the first floor level

    Thanks

Taking this with your other query about locating a gas meter it sounds like you are trying build-by-internet. If you do not have a professional advising you in real life that is a big mistake.

I'm doing no such thing. I'm no different to the vast majority of people posting questions on this forum.
