Must be a custom reg so. Again, no way in hell there were that many cars registered in Dublin that year.

Fair enough but are they not therefore registered with Irish plates and should then show up on the reg check ? Is this the same with all imports ?

All imports registered in Dublin with manufacture year until 2011 have a 120000+ plate.

I thought they stopped that nonsense when they brought in the 13x plates?

I blame the very tasty Erdinger Kristall that is fast disappearing in front of me for that post.

That's the point. Since 120k cars have never been sold in Dublin in a single year, and it's unlikely to happen again given the new reg system, imported car regs start at 120,000.

This allows imported cars to be easily differentiated against cars which were first registered in Ireland. Probably done to discourage people from importing cars, and to help potential buyers realise that a car has been imported.

Any car from 2011 or newer just gets the next consecutive number.

To quote Cinio from the last time this came up...
They didn't bring it so you can recognise if car is an import.

They brought it, because they introduced new computer system, which couldn't cope with starting consecutive numbers from different number in each county in each year.
Instead of fixing faulty computer system they though it will be easier to assign the highest number ever used in such county and start with it for every year, as this was something their computer system could cope with.

I just seen this rallying around the city yesterday, doing top speed, well, as much as going from green light to red light would allow,,

God, dunno could i drive it around Dublin, he looked like a plank, he had some weird looking folks trying to take pics, even one Lad tried to chat with him while taking a peek inside.

    Chavv,

My response to my wife was, a 08, ? Sher mine is newer than that.
