rent allowance with a FAS internship

    Hi

i have just recently graduated from college with an honours degree and was studying in the UK (only my final year). i have since moved back into my parents home and have been receiving social welfare throughout my studies.

i have been looking into these internships and have found some that would suit me, but i would have to move to dublin to work in one of these internships (if i get one that is).

my question is would i be entitled to get rent allowance if i had to move, cause it would cost me more to commute to dublin everyday for work, and the extra 50 euro would not put much towards rent and living expenses.

i have been looking into the rent supplement, but like all those government agencies, they dont always make complete sense. i understand that you can get it if you have been renting for 6 months and something occured in your life that made you need help, but my case is that i will have to move to work. simple as!

would appreciate some insight into this and it would be helpful if someone was in this same predicament.

    cheers

You would have to meet the usual eligibility requirements to qualify for Rent Supplement. http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/supplementary_welfare_schemes/rent_supplement.html Many have experienced similar to you - that most of the JobBridge internships are in Dublin and other cities and unless you have a relative's or friend's sofa to sleep on, the accommodation and travel issues rule out a lot of the opportunities.
