    hi all,
im living in a house built in 1987 which i purchased from my in laws. i want to floor the attic with plywood to use for storage and possibly as a makeshift bedroom as we keep guests in the summer, the house was mostly built by the father in law so there are some issues! first of all, the "joists" are only 115mm deep so not very strong up there, not really meant for an upstairs i suppose, i plan on running cross battens up there but i can only really fit 2x2(50mmx50mm) or at most 3x2(75mmx50mm) due to the head height. my problem is insulation, i plan on running glass wool between the 115mm timbers then running more between the 2x2s but ive heard that it shouldnt be compressed because its not as effective, but as im laying plywood im wondering what i should do, as far as im aware the minimum is 300mm but i dont know how i can do this, thanks for any help

If you insulate the the Attic between the joists it will leave the Attic very cold for using it as a Bedroom. A better option might be to consider getting the Roof spray foamed between the Rafters.
