Galway - Teaching Situation

    Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone from Galway or who's working in Galway could tell me what the job situation is for primary teaching. I'll be working in London for this year anyway but I've wanted to move to Galway for a couple of years now, there always seems to be things happening.

When I'm back I'd ideally like to move there to work. Does anyone have any experience of subbing or anything in the city?

    Thanks :)

Quite a few jobs go to teachers currently completing maternity leaves/temp contracts in schools, or who have recently done so. Jobs are very likely to go to local candidates.

I'm not usually one to be post about parochialism in teaching in this forum, but in my experience and the experience of many friends Galway would be one of the worst counties for it.

    That's a bit disheartening.

Don't be disheartened, that won't get you anywhere! Apply away. I do know people who got jobs in Galway with little or no contacts, but that would be the exception in my experience.
