'Retro' ideas on a modern car

Remember the 2CV, Herald, Moggy, Beetle etc - they all had some good ideas that should be incorporated into a cheap modern car.

How about a car that can be converted from a 2dr saloon in a coupe/ convertable /fastback / estate like the Herald ( I KNOW the Herald couldn't be converted in 10mins but it's the principle I'm thinking about )
or the car with 2 boots (flat twin/four) with space above it or a simple canvas roll roof with a f/glass , c/fibre roof panel for winter and flip up / sliding side windows ??

Trouble is car co's don't like cheap anymore, it's all 'retro' and 'added value' that bumps the price up

I'd say someone out there has a Herald / Vitesse that he can swop the roofs on

Didn't Citroen do that with the C3 Pluriel?

We unbolted the roof from a Herald once, just to see. Easy job, but we couldn't open the two doors at the same time after or they would not close !
