low 40's car options

I'm looking for a new car, to buy in 2014.

Paid silly money for a 159 back in 2008 - this will be finding a new home with my wife and will be selling/TI her 06 pug 206.

I've been there done that with diesel and will be going with new petrol.

I like the CLA 250, but reviews have been mixed. with one reviewer thinking it didn't seem as fast as its stated 0-100.

Also considering the A3 saloon, but have owned 2 audi in the past and they're a little too common now. Also not mad about the bmw looks, but wouldn't rule them out.

    last three cars were a 159, 9-3 and A6.

Probably not making it easy but what to consider?

Lexus is300h maybe? It's in that price bracket and something a bit different to your usual BMW or Audi.

They look nice, but apart from that I know nothing about them to be honest!

Tbh if the OP is concerned about the 0-60 times of the cla, the Lexus isn't in the running :)

    Though 0-60 isn't hugely relevant.

Even the Lexus website shows the new IS with the headlights on so you can't see what a mess they've made of the facelift (of an 8 year old model)

Also, bizzarely the F Sport model is slower than the base model!

Well the two new alfas are out anyway (I don't know how you got on with the 159) but the giuletta and mito ain't my favourites (except maybe the 1750 tbi)

Would you consider instead of buying something new buy something nice and powerful such as an m5 or a cl 500 or an rs4 that's a few years old? Some serious bargains out their in that category and while they may be thirsty, will be extremely fun to drive

    Thanks guys.

Thirsty not an issue. I don't expect to be doing huge mileage from 2014.

Would consider 2nd hand for the right car. 2 yo at most. As we'll be keeping the 159 that's the family car sorted, so it's open in that sense. Unlikely to go Alfa this time.

0-60 good indicator, but overtaking ability is important.

Does it have to be a saloon? New Focus ST with a few toys?

How about a Mercedes E350 CGi coupe?

The newer Lexus GS450h will likely be down to your price bracket by then too. Does 0 to 60 in 5.9 seconds so no performance issues, you have the rarity factor too.

Or, seeing practicality isn't an issue and you're doing low mileage, how about a brand new Toyota GT86?

The IS is an all new car AFAIK

Saloon or Coupe - too old for a boy racer :pac:

The toyota just isn't sporty enough for the look. Not quite hyundai coupe, but still.

Does it have to a saloon? How about a MkVII Golf GTi?

    For example:

They do an estate too...just an idea!

Interesting petrols are tough enough to find relatively new these days.
