Apologies if this was posted before. I searched the forum and I couldn't find it previously. If it was, please merge it.

This talk was at Defcon last year. However, it is still an issue today. If you can get over the speaker's cringeworthy comments at the start, it's worthwhile to keep going with it. I can't stand ego stroking like "When I'm bored bad things happen". Yawn.

Anyway, this story is fairly fascinating. The speaker was just regurgitating information freely available for the past several years, but he told a good story.

Dude, you're at Def Con. (Nearly)Everyone in the room is like you. When you draw attention to your uniqueness, in a room full of other people who are unique in the same way you look like an idiot.

Word of advice for anyone talking at Def Con or any other con, if you are not engaging, entertaining, or if you insist on idiotic trying-to-be-smart comments like above, please don't make your talk 50 minutes in length.
