Are you in the DF already?

Lowa's are pretty popular for Irish weather, so are Meindl's. Both brands offer boots that look a lot like Haix's but are a lot more comfortable and have the same level of water-proofing and ankle protection.

I would second Meindl and Lowa!

The under armour boots are muck!

Yes, I'm in the DF , the Lowa's and Meindl's would be better suited for the ground imo, these boots would just be for Battle PT so the lighter and the more comfortable the better.

Fair enough, 5.11 make a good range of light boots that are also waterproof, fantastic quality and are very comfortable.

I've owned the 5.11 ATAC Shield with side zip and they were hands down the most comfortable boot's I have ever worn in my life. The side zip is extremely durable as well, never failed on me and still worked when it was clogged up with mud, but you can get versions without the zip as well if you prefer.

What's wrong with the Magnums for BPT?

My own two cents would be meindl eagles, lighter than haix so ideal to run in but give great support and protection for long tabs, Waterproofing lasts two with a little bit of dubbing. The boots you want for battle PT are the boots you want for going out on exercise /courses/ overseas with, train with the gear you expect to work in.

Only drawback can be a little bit pricey but If there is one area I wouldn't skimp on its boots as they are your wheels.

I put the rubber insoles from Aldi into all my combat boots. Like wearing runners, unbelievably comfortable.

    Adidas GSG9's.

Adidas GSG9's or Magnum spiders are what you want.

If its purely for BPT, then you don't need waterproofing, cause you're gonna get wet anyway, and they'll just be like two buckets of water.

Yeah the issued ones are **** for support.

If you go onto www.rvops.co.uk you could get a pair of proper Magnums....not the bargain basement **** we get issued.

In the reserves we don't get issued Haix boots... reason why I bought Meindl's

If you're buying a boot specifically for Battle PT. I'd stay well clear of a waterproof boot. It just means you will carting around bootfulls of water and extra weight (also don't have your trousers tied in too tight or you may end up with MC hammer pants with a few kilos of water till the drain!).

If you want a light weight boot and have the reddies for it. I've used GSG9s, they're very light and wouldn't advise using them out on the ground as very little support and wouldn't be tabbing very far in them with any major weight. But for going through tank tracks etc they are ideal.

I've also heard good things about bates boots (non-GTX)

Hi folks I know this is an old thread and sorry to pull it up again but we supply the Haix boots to the PDF and if your in the reserves give us a shout and we will look after you as best we can on price.

If its light weight your after the Haix black eagle all leather is the way to go. The Haix GSG9 will offer a little more support and remain light. The Haix Tibet will offer fantastic ankle protection and support. All are Goretex. You can get us on 04782400 my name is Gerry.

    Regards
    Gerry

We're a little reluctant to allow commercial advertising, as it were, on this forum, but I'm inclined to leave this post be for now as it's specific and on-topic (And useful for RDF lads).

Just be careful you don't do this too often.

Apologies Gent. Just trying to help out wherever we can.
