You cant put him number one till he fights k o brien.

I cant argue with any of these rankings really

All the number 1 look right most the number 2 and 3 as well, but after that i dont know.
Are the rankings taken from this years fights or over all records ???

read a suggestion that all ammy title fights should be 5x3min rounds , great idea and a wouldnt do any harm to potential pros to get used to the 15min that is standard at pro level

Does anyone care whether an amateur fighter is using anabolic steroids or synthetic testosterone?

It would not be on, But don't even think of talking about any individuals on here or the ban hammer will be out in force.

the question is what REAL difference would it make if people do care , my guess is absolutely zero

    You really think that.

I'd agree with kieran81. If a lad walked into a fight that was ripped to the tits and obviously using steroids nothing would be done about it

There I was thinking we might get a discussion on the rankings :-)

not to be taking the focus off topic , because the standard of amateur mma fighters in ireland has risen dramatically since the rule change and all the guys named are the cream of the crop , but my point was not to say irish mma is rampant with ped's or give that impression , but was that if somebody wanted to use ped's and rise to the top of irish amateur mma there is very little ( if anything?) to stop them in my opinion

as for the rankings levi keogh should be in the 66 kg list , he's a greatly improved fighter who was good to begin with and chris boujard in the 70 kg list too , he's been very dominant and gavin kelly from evolve in bantamweight is definetly top 5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 485 ✭✭theboxingclinic

Gavin Kelly has had 2 pro fights im sure, Chris Bouchard I agree with, hes gone be a force at lw, maybe because hes only had 1 fight there that he didnt get in, i know i nominated him, Levi ability wise Id agree with but hasnt been very active at all and has a losing record so I presume that went against him.

There are a few fighter in the top 5 that as far as i know haven't had a fight this year and that is why i was wondering is it the overall record or just this years fights for the rankings.
It should be only this years fights so you know who is in form and active .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 82 ✭✭ATMatm

Solid list. KOB staying top until he fights in Waterford and goes pro?

It's based on records, calibre of opponent and form too

    That's what i was told.

Reckon Paul laurence and Anzor from lucan would deserve a spot ahead of Geoff. They've both lost only to Daly and torn through everyone else

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61 ✭✭steviemac

Anzor is a great fighter but he did loose to James Brennan to

Ya James beat him at the last Lucan show,
Paul lawerence I think should be there alright

ah yeah. Sorry thought that was a rematch with Daly he lost

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 485 ✭✭theboxingclinic

Anzor was beaten by both daly and Brennan, it was lawerence that daly beat in a rematch,
I still think lawerence should be there though

so with these rankings will we be seein a match between Stephen Owens and Ciaran Daly anytime soon? Reckon Daly takes that one though ;-)

He already beat Stephen Owens at man of war earlier this year

dam way outta touch this year ha. Any videos of that one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 485 ✭✭theboxingclinic

Havnt seen one but very dominant performance from daly in it

As far as i know Paul lawerence lost his last 2 fighs and draw the one before that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61 ✭✭steviemac

And although Stephen Owens is one of the best he has only had 1 fight this year and lost that,
That is why i was asking how the rankings are done ,It cant be on form and results from this year and that is what it should be taking from

Stephen Owens has fought at least twice this year winning one and losing one

I know he lost on CWFC fight night 8 in May and didn't think he had a fight since he lost to Daly ,
but even if he has a 1 and 1 record this year why his he in no.2 ranking when you have the like of James Brennan at only 4th and he has a great record ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 485 ✭✭theboxingclinic

He didn't fight in may at cwfc.
He's 1-1 as far as I know but in fairness daly was his only loss is a long long time.
I'd certainly have James higher, he's beaten high quality opponents all via stoppage but I'm probably biased in fairness :-)

For sure Brennan should be up there but Stephen owens did fight on 11 th May on the CWFC fight night 8 in AL FUJAIRAH, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES and lost to Jarrah Hussein

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 485 ✭✭theboxingclinic

Was that an Ammie fight or pro?
    How did he lose?
    I'm surprised I missed this

It was a Decision (Split) and a ammie fight. Im not picking on Stephen owens he is a great fighter and has a great future in the game. But this is why i dont understand how the rankings are done even Ryan Curtis is at no .2 and i dont think he has had a fight this year yet

Yes for sure but it's ment to be done on form and record to date not the future

Within the last year period Paul had gone 4-2-1

1 loss and a draw to Daly who is the number 1, the other loss to international opponent so he wuldn't overtake Paul in the ranking sanyway

Paul is defo in the top 5 in Ireland, I'll happily match him with anyone in the rankings.

We also have Thomas Hogan who has been 3-0 at welter this year, his 1 loss was at light weight

Rush Boxing club and Rush Martial Arts head coach.

Although Paul has not won his last 3 fights he is defo one of the best WW for sure, but cant be in the top 5 for 2013 with as regards form and wins.
Thats why id like to know how the rankings are done when there are lads in no.2 in the ranks who haven't won a fight in 2013 and have not even had a fight in 2013

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 485 ✭✭theboxingclinic

Opposition must be taken into account.
Paul has fought much higher opposition then the most in the top 5. He fights Brennan in October. Doesn't duck tough fights, does the opposite and looks for them

O i know its never a dull fight when Paul is in the cage,Love watching him fight.
But my point is you have to win to be in the rankings and im talking about some of the lads who are in the top 5 and have not won or even had a fight in 2013

Stephen has been very active the last year fighting on Cage Warriors,Vision Fc, Celtic Gladiator, Katana FC etc. His record is something like 10-2 with decision loses coming from top opponents like Daly and the UAE fight which should have been another win with a highly controversial split decision to the home town hero.

Just because you dont see them fighting near you doesnt mean they arent active - hes fighting in Las Vegas in 2 weeks also.

Theres no doubting his position imo and also with Daly being top is the correct call.

I normally dont like rankings but these were well done and well thought out imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61 ✭✭steviemac

I know how good Stephen is but the fact is he lost his last 2 fights (as far as i know) so as regards wins and form how can he be no.2 when Hall and Brennan have been active and winning and unbeaten .
Its not an attack on him ,like i said Ryan Curtis hasn't had a fight in 2013 and he is no.2 in his class.
just wont to know how the ranks work

He hasnt lost his last 2 fights?

He lost to Daley then beat Stuart Taylor in Scotland on Katana, then lost (when it should of had been a win) in UAE then won on Celtic Gladiator.

Rankings are done on Records, Titles, opponents, shows etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61 ✭✭steviemac

Like i said he wasn't an attack on him and he is one of the best out there and good luck to him in Vegas
